Allis chalmers all crop machine

I believe the manual claimed they'd harvest everything from clover seed to coconuts. Worked well in everything. (except maybe the coconuts)

They were small pull type combines. There was a model 40 that was a one row machine and a 60 that was a 6o inch cut later replaced with a model 66. The 40 was a straight through machine and the 60 and 66 the material made a right angle turn and the straw came out the side. They were very versatile and simple and capable of harvesting a variety of crops. I think the model 100 self propelled was also called an All-Crop.

Our museum has two of them. It was like the Ford model T. Not the first combine but the first combine to be put within reach of the mass market. Up till then most combines were big, expensive and more suited to the wheat plains then the average 160 acre farm. BTW, this innovation came from the Flemming and Hall combine that AC bought in 1930 for the sum of $25,000.

I ran one most in oats standing and windrowed also did a bunch of Timothy did it standing. Best small grain machine ever built. Not great for soybeans unless they are clean from weeds. Look in the manual and you will find 99 crops the machine would do. Dont need a high HP tractor 30 HP would do fine.

Yep, I plan to have the 40 going to harvest Colossus Peas this fall.
Thanks to Garry in NC and Traditional Farmer. Spent many a day pulling a 72 with a 49 JD A.

My Dad had a 60 and a 66 in the 1960's. They were a very popular combine around here. A little hard to put a 10 foot swath of heavy grain through, but the straight cut worked well. The ones I.ve seen were all PTO driven. 60 or 66 inch cut, 60 inch rubber cylinder bars, very gentle on specialty crops like clover. Grain was carried up to the cylinder by a canvas on rollers, grain and straw were separated crosswise on the rear of the combine with a right hand discharge for the straw. Bin held around 30 bushel I think, some had baggers, some had an unloading auger for bulk grain. My Dad modified the header on a few to thresh sunflowers. 10 acres a day meant a long day with no stops.

I still use an All-Crop 60 on my few acres. It will thresh beans cleaner than my neighbors new ones, but a whole bunch slower. I have run it with my JD B at 20 hp so it doesn't take much. Lots of them has Allis B engines in the days before live PTO"s.

It will work if the tractor has a low enough 1st gear (assuming the tractor had no live PTO) We used a 30 Massey and in 1st at PTO speed it was, at times , too high of a ground speed if the swath was heavy--even worse if it was a 12 foot swath.
