recommend me a good tractor with 60-70hp

im in need of another tractor that i will use for the 8' disc mower, bush hog and backup for the baler (vermeer 505 super I) if that tractor ever tore up.

it must be diesel and have a fel and under 10k so its going to be a older tractor, i know that and actually prefer older stuff that i can actually work on.

based on that what do yall recommend im not really brand specific just need a good realiable basic tractor.

I bought my JD 2550 with a loader for $9.5k, had 4900 hours, at a JD dealer. Runs my 605H just fine. 65 solid horses out of a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder diesel. Sips fuel. If I needed a second tractor I would buy another one of these.

The Oliver 1600-1655 is good, but don't be afraid to go a little bigger and step up to an 80 hp tractor like a 1750/1755.

Massey had good tractors too. We use our Massey 285 on the haybine and baler. Plenty of weight to control a baler and heavy load. Those still hold their value pretty good, but 10,000 should get you a pretty good 285. Otherwise look at a 175 or 180, 265, or 275.

$5000 would be more than enough to get you a good Oliver. I like how high you sit on the higher up rowcrop tractors like the Olivers, but the 285 works just fine too.

You can get a lot of tractor these days for 10K in the two wheel drive variety, I saw a Massey 285 on Craigslist a few weeks ago with a bush
hog brand loader and 90% tires all around that started at 8500.00 and was down to 7000.00 when I lost track of it. Two wheel drives below 100
HP are selling cheap at the auctions I have been too lately.

I certainly wouldn't turn down a decent Oliver 1850, or a 7710 Ford either. There are quite a few 7710 Fords in our area that still seem to just keep chugging away.

The 285 MF is a nice choice but if you want a higher up platform/cab version of same tractor, the 1085 is same mechanically but is way more tractor in my opinion. Larger tires(dia) and more weight/visability and easier to get on and off. Price is reasonable, I sold this one last fall for $8200, low hrs and orig. paint.Nice 80 hp tractor.

There is a 1655 with loader on the southern ill CL for $6250 with 6300 hours. Looks pretty clean in the photo. Don't know where you are in TN. Tractor is 200 miles north of Nashville... Tractor located in Burnt Prairie, Il

Steven. The most important aspect of buying a tractor that's going to be a worker is dealer support. Some parts are only available from the OEM so a good local dealer is important especially if you need a large part that would be expensive to ship. Here where I'm at JD, Ford (through CaseIH/New Holland dealers) and IH are the ones to buy. The dealer that supports AGCO (White, Oliver, MM and MF) is 60 miles away and has poor parts support. So here I'd tell you to look for an IH 706 or Ford 5000 in your price range. Both should be available for far less than 10K.

(quoted from post at 18:26:33 06/20/15) My Ford 6610 with FEL is in that range, solid tractor.

yes a 6610 or 5610 is what i have been leaning toward the whole time just have to find one in good shape for the right price. but am also keeping eye out for other makes.

another vote for a late Ford 5000. much less than 10k.
The one I had with FEL was a strong tractor.
Another thing, resale if you ever need to sell it.
Very high demand here. I used to have to hide my 5000,
when selling another tractor.
Everyone would immediately want [i:5d4fac43ef]that[/i:5d4fac43ef] one.
