split a gas 706 for a clutch and put in a new rear seal since the clutch housing was full of engine oil. Anyway while cleaning the clutch housing out I found a rubber tube about 5/16 diameter and maybe 2.5 to 3 inches long laying in the bottom of housing. have no idea were it came from or were it belongs. any ideas? thanks.

Probably the rubber "seal" that you drive into the rear main bearing cap or seal retainer, forget on that one which part has the grooves for it. If that's what it is, it seals the gaps along the edge of the main bearing cap/seal housing, whichever part has the groove for it.

Just a guess, if someone had the pan off and maybe did an in frame. Probably is the throw out bearing grease tube. Found lots of weird stuff in tractors, in the strangest places.

The rubber tube seals between the block and main bearing cap. There is a groove in both the block and cap for the seal to fit in. If it is missing you will have a major oil leak between the block and cap.
