State Farm Ins

Years ago they were caught using imported low quality parts on their repairs which apparently was against the law. So once you cheat everyone i don't deal with you.

Don't know about now, but ten years or so ago "State Farm" were the two dirtiest words in the auto body industry.

Any body shop willing to deal with State Farm had to submit to State Farm's demands as to how the job was done, using aftermarket sheet metal, cutting corners on quality, etc. And, of course, when a shoddy job went out the door it was the shop's reputation that suffered.

I've nothing against aftermarket sheet metal, I've used a lot of it myself, but it has its place. If a customer is paying the bill he may be perfectly agreeable to saving a few dollars. But on a top quality insurance repair on a new vehicle, I wouldn't consider it.

That's why I shied away from insurance work altogether. I had all the work I wanted without having to deal with insurance companies.

they cancelled my policy after two small claims. One was a door glass that was broken to steal my radio and the other was about a year later when the tires and wheels got stolen off the same car.

Very bad!

I was with them for years and they gladly accepted my payments. Had a fender bender in 1988 (small claim), then another wreck in 1997( around $6,000). They dropped me then, after I had paid premiums(comprehensive/full-coverage) for over 20 years.

I worked with a guy that was with State Farm and he had an accident and they canceled him after paying the claim.I wouldn't deal with State Farm Insurance. They told me that they could beat my insurane rate by maybe as much as $350.00.I gave them the information on what I have on my policy. He came back and asked how much I pay and I told him you tell me what your going to charge for a policy like mine. He came back with a price almost $400.00 more than my policy and said he couldn't come close to selling me a policy for what I was paying for mine. But this gets better yet two week latter he calls me and tells me he can sell me a policy like mine for $ 200.00 less than I am paying. I told him to hit the road.

I'm into them big time and have been all my life; lots and lots of paper with massive payments. They don't seem to give me a lot of grief when I file a claim.

I think State Farm has a bad rap from how they were years ago, especially reading the responses here. With that said, I have them on all my vehicles (personal and business), Homeowners; and I can not complain about how they handle claims today. I have had several claims, I pause to say many, lol. Had a couple years of just flat out bad luck. Any ways, the last claim was a fire that took two trucks and a detached garage.

State farm paid very well on the trucks, a LOT more than I expected, and well on the building. With the other claims in recent years, they wanted to cancel the policy. I wasn't surprised. I talked with my agent, he called to tell me before I got the letter. He went to bat for me with State Farm, and they kept us on.

Id have my business insurance with them, but they don't cover the type of electrical work I do.

Good enough company in my opinion

Contrary to what some of the others have said my experience with State Farm has been stellar. They have always done what they said they would do and have gone over and above what would be expected. My agent has treated me very well, too. I've been with them for 35 years and have no reason to change. Mike

I have been with them for over 30 years. I have 7 vehicles, and my house. A few small collision claims is all so far. I have had no problems. Stan

Had them years ago till we had a claim and they payed about 1/3 of what we thought they should have so we dropped them. Me I will say this to any Vet you should check out USAA top notch and very good rates

I've been with State Farm since 1978 for my business and personal and they have always been very good at taking care of claims and not raising the premiums. Chuck

State Farm canceled my policy after 3 months, not raised rates canceled because I had a commercial building, which I made them aware of and it was OK when they signed me up. Some insurance companies will not renew policies if you have 3 claims in 5 years. Even if they are small claims, it the number that counts. Then you are on a black list. I would get a different company, simply because you now have one strike.

state-farm is the best, I pay big $ each year on farm, home cars, trucks, and business, many claims over 25 years and no problems.....nationwide ins was a big problem

I had Allstate for my snowmobile for about fifteen years and paid them about $2,000.00 Then they canceled me just because I had $22,000 in claims in four years.

I don't know where to start. My wife and I have had State Farm insurance on our vehicles and property for 30+ years. We have had many deer crashes and a couple of cars totaled (not our fault). We have not had much problems with them paying claims or jacking our premiums until our son had his second small fender bender. He was driving someone else's (employers') vehicle and that accident was maybe partially his fault. State Farm sent my wife and I a letter saying that they would no longer cover our son and wanted us to sign a form agreeing to that. Our son was still in school and driving our vehicles so we told them "No we would not sign" and started checking into other companies. We found that State Farm had as good of prices as anyone, so we just kind of drug our feet. When the next renewal of the policy on the vehicle that our son was listed as a driver came due, nothing was said and they renewed it. We still have State Farm to this day. However, with all of this said, I am pretty sure that we have a terrible, lousy agent.

I have had State Farm for many years now.
I could find insurance for a little less but just keep State Farm because
of the way they have treated us in the past.

A guy crossed the center line on a country road and hit my wife.
Our car was 8 days old.
Rather than deal with the other guys insurance I filed a claim under my collision coverage.
They fixed the car. Came very close to totaling it because the repair bill was 70% of the car price.
State law says if the repair bill is 75% of the car price they must total it.
We got the car back and in 2 months the standard transmission started making noise.
It was found out the body repair shop did not fill the transmission with oil.
Called State Farm and the adjuster came out a verified the low oil.
Since I had used a State Farm certified shop they agreed to replace transmission.
The next day the adjuster calls and says the transmission put the total cost over the 75%.
They totaled the car and paid the loan off.

A while back my 27 year old son borrowed my pickup to haul some stuff for a friend.
He lives in my house but is not on my insurance.
State Farm ask me.......
Does your son usually drive this pickup?
"NO"
Does your son own his own car with insurance?
"YES"
OK your covered.
The truck was totaled.
They sent me a check minus my deductible.
I still enjoy accident free status.

I had State Farm on my snowmobiles for years, they were Ski-Doo's hottest ones available at the time, last one was a 2006 Mach Z. The highest premium I paid was $65.00 a year for full coverage. They paid out over $7000.00 in claims (wrecks, my fault) and they never raised the rate. All my friends were paying over $200.00 for theirs. Chuck

No 2 sates have identical insurance laws. So each of us should at least research requirements for an agent in our states. Many states the agent only has to have minimal training. That's because they input everything into a computer hooked directly to the company that spits out the rates and policy. When it comes to claims most are totally in the dark.

Now for the part some of you don't want to hear. The legal definition of insurance includes the phrase "to put you where you were before a loss occurs". That means that if you 10 year old fender is crumpled and isn't worth fixing you get a 10 year old junk yard fender painted to match your car. Some states have kicked that aside and said that you get a new OEM fender.

As far a cancelling a policy they have to be able to prove that you failed to uphold your end of the insurance contract (policy). This is most often failure to make a payment or something like a DUI. Now there is nothing that prevents them from renewing a policy. After all they are a short term contract lasting generally 6 to 12 months.

Insurance companies need to get this: They're supposed to be working for you, not the other way around!

No insurance companies are companies. They have to make a profit. They generally get around 6-7% profit which is pretty much standard for any company that's going to be in business any length of time.

We have had State Farm insurance on our vehicles for a very long time. A few years ago our 10-yr old Oldsmobile Intrigue was involved in an altercation with a pole on our neighbor's yard and they ended up totaling it out. (The rear bumper, trunk lid, right quarter panel, and the right rear door were all damaged to some degree.) Their offer was much higher than than Kelley Blue Book "good condition" retail value so we took the money and went car shopping. This has been our only claim and our rates did not go up at all. I feel like we were treated very fairly by them and our local agent is great to work with.

Had auto insurance with State Farm since I was on my parents policy . I was 16 yrs old & that was 54 yrs ago. I;ve never had a problem with State Farm.

Yes they do that. I quit them and got AARP Ins. They are worse. Raised my rates substantially when I turned 80 because older people go to more frequently and stay longer in the hospital Also Keep violations 5 years, others 3. Also held property damage(guard rail) for more than 3 years. Now I have USAA and as a veteran I get really good treatment. Henry

Had them over 30 years. No complaints, great service, lots of discounts if you insure everything with them. Course, like everything else, they are subjected to disinformation from a competitor.................One thing is that they don't spend a ton of money on advertising that has to be paid for somehow........wonder how?
