I just saw a couple of 5 tons with dumps on them for sale the other day. First time I ever saw a 2.5 ton with one. Could still come in handy. Plenty handy.

Those dont have enough power to break anything. I
got a soft spot in my heart for one. I drove one in
Baghdad in 2006. Date of delivery was stamped on
the dash. June 1948. Not a lot of hp but they were
built to last and they will go almost anywhere very
very slowly.

SHE AINT A DEUCE N A HALF, THEM R SINGLE WHEEL...USED 5 TONS @ SOC TRANG, VIET NAM, 66, 2 WASH OUT MY HUEYS...BE BLESSED, GRATEFUL, PREPARED

Several mechanics told me that the Multi Fuel engines are a total pain cause they don't run good on ANYTHING. There is a guy local who goes in the Fourth of July parade with one. All dolled and VERY pretty. Must have cost him a fortune. NEW tires and all!

I need one to repair roads going into my 40 acre bush lot and have been watching IRONPLANET but the closet one is to far . After floating, duty ,tax and exchange , I'm looking at 10 g --can't justify that right now .

I sure would, here is the 93 Deuce and half than was made into a lube truck, at the under ground sand mine I use to
work at. Many broken axles, was repowered with a C7 Cat so it could go under ground. It was overloaded, full of fuel
and oil across the scale was 32,500 pounds, but was a joy to drive, well sort of!

Duck farms use them around here to spread semi-liquid waste. You really don't want to get stuck behind
them for to long.

side exhaust had the 466 in them, exhaust out the rear has a 427, I think--its been years good old trucks plenty of power. We had some gas powered fuel tankers. they were dated 1945 and 1946-- wouldn't get out of their way empty. I always wondered how they kept up hauling fuel to Patton's tanks. they must have had hundreds or thousands of them.

Paul they upgraded em to 6 lug sometime along the way. That is a 2 1/2 ton. All of the 5 tons had vertical exhaust from sometime in the 60's while the 2 1/2 ton didn't get vertical exhaust unless it had the deep water fording stack or until the "clean air" engine upgrade was installed stating in the 80's. The "clean air" was only installed on the multi fuel engine failure or the truck went through depot level rebuild. There were duce drivers all over the place deliberately trying to blow up their engines to get the new diesel only turbocharged clean air engine. Then a few short years later the cold war was over and the military went through the "peace dividend" draw down. The Army had enough new model 5 tons that they purge the duce in favor of the 5 ton at all levels.
