Bad day for the cell phone

I dropped my phone in the sink full of water yesterday.
I snatched it out, quickly pulled the back cover off, blew it out with compressed air and set it in the hot sun on the dark hood of the pickup hoping it would dry out.
Came back about an hour later, grabbed it off the hood and it slipped out of my hand and fell flat on it's face on the concrete.
I guess the broken glass didn't matter as the phone was kaput anyway.
Had to go to the T Mobile store this morning.
$240 later I can make calls again.
Ouch!

Next time, pull the battery and put both bits in a bowel of uncooked rice (cover up). Worked for me and my pal. HTH

ice fix the glass too?

Don't feel bad we all drop things. I was getting the last piece of lemon pie out of the pan last night, it dropped right in the trash. pan and all. stan

It runs in bunches for sure. According to what I read once the most common place to dunk a phone is the toilet. They didn't break it down to before or after the flush though. Last time I dunked mine was in the lake, and I went in with it, or maybe I should say it went in with me. I dried out OK, the phone did not.

(quoted from post at 14:23:24 06/08/15) It may work, but I'm not gonna ask how you get the phone in the bowel...... :)
mergency call of nature, unbuckle belt, belt clip slides off with phone in toilet....easy as pie. I fished one out, tool cover off, battery out, compressed air, sun, worked for a year or more until free up grade time.

Ummmm......you might want to re-read his original response, JMOR. I think my pitch went over your head--sorry 'bout that.

My wife has washed two in the clothes washer--guess she had been getting dirty calls--. The last one we left lying around the house for a couple months, so one day I charged it up and d tried it--said "emergency calls only" . I took the SIM card out of my old phone, put it in the washed one and it's been working fine for over a year.

haa, the all significant "e".

My daughter dropped her, used but new to her, iphone in the toilet at school. She knew that she would not get a new one, rinsed it off, wiped it with bleach and kept using it.

Yeah it is.
Often enough I wish I could live without it but that would be the same as wishing I could live without a paycheck and not gonna happen.

Sorry--couldn't resist! Reminds me of the time the local quicky-mart was making Angus Burgers for lunch and whomever made up the hand-lettered sign forgot the "g" in "angus". Wondered why they weren't selling many until I pointed it out to the gal behind the counter. It was quickly corrected amid a flurry of giggles, and sales went up immediately thereafter.....

Always sounded crappy after that.

Wow, that's a lot of money!! Did you ever look at Straight Talk??
My flip phone is $39.95 and $30 a month for 1500 minutes and texts.
Works anywhere in the USA. Wifes smartphone is $45 a month..unlimited.

Been there.

And you'll always pay more for a phone (or anything) when you need one NOW

For the last few years, been going on ebay and buying a phone to match my needs and carrier, just to have as a backup.

So when I do the inevitable and bust my phone, got another I can activate right there.

FWIW

All this talk of dropping them in the toilet - I can't recall the last time I was near a toilet during the day. I guess that makes mine safe from that. It stays in the console of the tractor or the dash of the chore pickup. After I nearly dunked one in the stock tank I thought about a waterproof case, but people can't hear you very well.

I did have this one come up missing after chores one night. I panicked right away because I had been through all of the pig pens. You know how them like to chew. I grabbed the wife's and took off across the barnyard calling it. Sure enough, a light lit up in the south pen. Luckily it was a couple of pregnant sows and they were still busy eating. I did run the case through the dishwasher.

they should be made out of chocolate ,, although not quite as durable ,, at least they can be eaten when they fail

I've given up on cell phones, around this area Verizon is the best carrier with the best signal. I swear most of the ground I farm doesn't have a signal. I've got a bin site high on a hill neither the truckers or myself can make calls there. So for now I've told everyone if you want to get ahold of me call the land-line with is our internet also or come looking.
