Gas tank cleaning

Anybody have any suggestions on cleaning a gas tank. The outside is pretty bad, the inside is pretty clean. The tractor had been sitting for over 30 years.

Thanks.

I'd recommend steam clean or car-wash the inside, elbow grease on the exterior. That will be simple with it off the tractor.

Been covered many times on here. Wash or actually soak the inside of the tank with MEK from the paint department. It will dissolve the gunk and crap in the tank. After several days I used a high pressure power washer with one of those orbital power tip ends on it. They really do a bang up job on any thing in there. Out side I would use stripper for the paint and sand paper the rust off. Tanks have a tin coating and try not to remove it. If really bad then sand or bead blast gently to keep the metal from warping. After you want to keep the tank full as possible and add a dash of Startron and also some Stable. This makes it so the tank cannot rust inside.

Check my post about the pressure washer. Three weeks ago I checked every place I could think of to clean my tank's insides. NO BODY has a steam cleaner anywhere around me. Carwash, truck repair shop, Caterpillar dealer, I mean NO BODY. EPA junk has made them a BAD BAD thing to have. The pressure washer with the power tip did a very good job. What is this world coming to?

NO go ahead and paint it. I just told you to try and leave the original tin, zink, or cambdium coating if possible. Checked my tank on the cub today and it is happy as a clam so far,

I have had the best results with plastic coating the inside of the tank after cleaning. No more dirt or rust problems.
