O.K I have a life time experience with the dt466 ih engine in , dozers, tractors and trucks. Here is the problem I have no experience with the newer E engines. Have one in a 2002 ih4900 trucks. Truck sat for 8 years before I got it and seemed to run fine. We removed a fuel bed and mounted a nice flat bed dump. Changed oil/filters ect and made a short trip. Just ran so so and I was not satisfied. Changed the fuel filter and made another trip. I am now convinced it has a bad injector or not really stout enough at higher rpms . Been reading and looking on u tube they make a bid deal out of changing an injector. Not like the older engines. Rebuilt injectors seem to run around 250 to 300 bucks or more. Six injectors 1800 and probably 1500 in shop labor , not sure the truck is worth the 3500 . Engine only shows 86,000 and shows no blowby. Any body had this problem.. Comments please What should it cost to check and replace ONE injector or is that a smart idea.

Hook the computer up to figure out which injector is faulty. Should also show some fault codes if it has other problems.
Might be running in default mode and they are gutless then.

A quick check after a cold start with your hand on each exhaust outlet I've used also, a cold port could mean that injector is not firing, due to electric problems or that injector may be returning fuel back to tank due to internal injector trouble.

First things first did you completely drain the fuel? Head by itself holds quite a bit. Second is the check engine light on? If you have an injector out the check engine light will be on. $3500 should almost overhaul one. Does the truck have an Allison or is it a stick? The govornor on an Allison can make you think you've got engine problems. That's only if you have a mechanical allison. If you have an electronic allison that could still be a problem. If you have any old fuel in it I would start with fresh. I have replaced injectors in several hundred 466e engines I think ive changed all six at once maybe twice. If you can tell me some more info I could probably be of help.

My neighbor bought a ford F-7 with the cummings 5.9, it also had sat for a few years. Drove home ok, but next trip fell on its face. Changed filters, didn't help, finally found what looked like a sediment bowl ahead of the filters. Took it apart, and it was packed with a very sticky black mess of something. Cleaned that out, and it ran great for a few trips to the co-op, the bowl was packed again, took 5 or 6 times to get it to stay clean.

That is a huei engine-there may be another problem ,not injectors. Those rarely had a bad injector, but usually a oil(huei)problem. If it does not have a dead miss,I would not go changing out the injectors.
You need a diagnostic scan tool to see what the injection control oil pressure is;your problem may be a bad sensor or a bad huei pump for example. If is hard to start hot,you may have oil leakage in the system.
Also some of those had a small prefilter in the suction line to fuel pump, a screen that clogs up sometimes.
Good luck,Mark

O.K Ill try to star at the bottom and address the replies that I really appreciate. First why was the truck setting for 8 years. Two young bucks came in and bought out local fuel distributor that had 75% of the farm business. In two years they had run off all the business, sold out to a large out of town company that just let the truck stay there in the locked compound. It definitely is not a dead miss. I have took the heat gun and shot the cylinders after cold start and cannot isolate a bad cylinder. Have checked the small element before the fuel filter. Shows on codes when the engine dig. button is pushed so MAYBE I do not have a bad injector. I may be just expecting too much out of the little engine. There is another filter on the back of front timing cover that looks like it could be a secondary oil filter, going to check that out tomorrow. The 3500 was what the local ih truck dealer quoted. His statement was "Since you are in there might as well replace them all" I was definitely going to get a second opinion on that one. Thanks for all the replies, this board has a lot of experience.
