Open platform tractors can only be used around the farm yards, not in the fields. Exception is owner driver can use in fields.

All the sub-100HP NH's are based on old Fiat designs built in Italy.

I have a mechanic thats works at a NH dealership working on a Fiat built 1973 1365 Oliver
and he said the block on the Oliver was the same as a newer NH tractor they'd been working on at the dealership.

Curious as to why open station tractors cannot be used in the fields? Are labor laws that strict in GB? I would think if the tractor was equipped with a rops and seat belts it would be safe. Does the government have cab tractor patrols that bust you if you drive out of the farm yard LOL!

me too... it has the required rops... so I dont know why anyone can not use it anywhere.. Osha requires rops on any tractor used by a non family member.. here in the US.

That rule makes no sense. I can understand
if it doesn't have a tops but as'm long as
it's got a rops it would be safe and legal.
And many situations open rops is somewhat
proffered like laborers on a setter type
planter where communication is critical.
Not to mention a cab with no ac is hotter
than heck

That Kuhn disc mower/conditioner specifically says in the manual not to run it with a tractor without a cab. I'm doing it anyway, but the company rep and dealer service manager came out the first day I ran it and got it set up and running proper. The company guy suggested that if I was going to run it with an open tractor, that I at least make some kind of a screen for the back of it.
I guess the Europeans have taken it a step farther and mandated cabs.

I've been told that too. Didn't know they were printing it in manuals. I've mowed quite a few acres with a new holland 1431 and open station ih 1066, and have a deere 920 and an open station deere 4320. Haven't had a rock fet me yet. I have had a rock get when tedding hay though.

I got whacked a time or two with the old flail type New Idea Cut/Ditioner. That one lifted things before it threw them.

Neighbor of mine got speared by a piece of wood running a disc mower. Do they run at higher speeds than bush hog types?

I would think they do. I don't know what the actual speed is on the disc mower, but those blades are only a few inches long. A dealer salesman told me one time that you'd have to run 22 miles an hour to over run them.

Most disc mowers have a blade tip speed around 180 mph. This is pretty close to what rotary mowers
run but those are shielded much better - if anything comes out of them it is lower to the ground.

I put a large rock thru the back window of my Deere 4230 mowing cornstalks with my discbine a few years ago.I do still mow with my open 4020 sometimes. A bad discbine is better than a good haybine. Tom

That's for sure. The one that really stone pecks me though,is the MC Rotary Scythe that I have, when I cut corn stalks with it.
