Need help with computer

I was n a website searching for bearings for my bushhog gear box.
I have had this happen a few times but it always recovered.
The cursor will freeze and the PC will cut off. Restart and I will have a message at bottom saying---" internet explorer closed unexpedly, do you want to reload"
I have internet explorer 7 with Comcast high speed as server.
Computer is always up to date and I have security essential, malware bytes and super anti-spy ware yhat I run regularly.
My modum now says " no signal"and goes into hibernation.
I have service going to a monitor that feeds this computer and my wife's laptop. Laptop gives no problem.
Is the computer toast or is there something I can try before replacing it?

My computer (under two years old) was freezing up on Internet Explorer. I switched to Google Chrome browser... no more problems.

I already have Google chrome and Foxfire installed, but seldom used them, but my kids do---What is the procedure I need to follow to switch?

I am having the same problem, and I called my son an hour ago asking what is wrong. He said same thing, try Google Chrome or Firefox. For the last half hour or so, I have been using Chrome. I didn't switch
anything, just logged out of Internet Explorer and logged in to Chrome. Then typed in a few sites that were giving me problems. So far, it is tons faster, and hasn't locked up at all. If it continues to
work much better, then I will continue to use Chrome.

You need Internet Explorer 8 with XP, IE9 with Vista and IE 11 with Windows 7. IE 7 is outdated.
I would use Firefox or Chrome.

Many websites don't work with all browsers, and this problem is compounded with sites that use Java, JavaScript or Flash. A good webmaster will make sure his site works with the latest versions of IE and Firefox and maybe a few others such as Chrome, Safari or Opera. But it's a bit much to expect every site to check for backwards compatibility with all the old versions of popular browsers. Either upgrade your browser or choose a different company with which to do business.

Also, you seem to be conflating problems with your internet service and the problems you're having with IE. If your wife's computer works and yours doesn't, then the problem is most likely with your PC. But when your "modum" (I assume you mean your cable modem) says "no service", that should have nothing to do with your computer. The cable modem doesn't care if there's even a PC attached to it. And if there's no service both PCs should be out.

IMHO your problem is you're using Internet Explorer. I've always had trouble with it just like your describing. That's why I use Firefox.

I'm running a beta version of Windows 10 and they call IE Spartan now. It's no better. Still installed Firefox

Bob,

Two ways on Chrome:

Easiest is click on the star (right side of screen next to the "search" magnifying glass.

Or next to the star... left click on the 3 bold horizontal lines next to the star and a drop down menu appears - click on bookmarks.

I still have the question--how do I do anything without being able to use the monitor?

To me, it's like---trying to program a TV with it not running

Not a computer expert by any means, but I've had a similar problem before. The fins in the cooling fan were plugged.

They are clean.
UPDATE---Walked into the room and the computer is working!!
Now what do I do, go with Chrome or Foxfire?
