School Bands and old tractors today

Our daughter participated in Pageant of the Bands in Sherburne New York that has been held there for 66 years. One band came from Madison High School in South Dakota. They all did a great job and thought some of you would enjoy scenes from a small town including a few tractors. Greg

Well, that explains all the school busses that I saw going by our house on US 20 today.
That is a really nice and rare Case with the starburst cast grill, and those rear wheels.

Very enjoyable/ I have been trying to get our Chamber of Commerce to do a July 4 parade, or summer parade. The one Christmas parade sometimes is too bitterly cold, Sleet, etc.

I marched for seven years in Sherburne, both junior and senior high school. We also participated in the concert competition.

Our small town has a 4th of July parade, carnival, entertainment, etc every year and this year will be its 150th celebration. The only time that there was not a celebration was back in 1958 when a flood came through and several lives and much property was lost.

You know I love those tractors! But not as much as I love those bands! What I see when I look at this post is a group of young people, each giving an individual effort yet relying upon each other to also do their part to accomplish and produce their product. Pretty good example which can be applied to any modern business model present and to come! There are those who think music in our schools is outmoded; I say their thinking is limiting potential. Thirty six years directing bands does make me passionately prejudice on this subject.

What make is that small green tractor the young lady is driving? Has a single cylinder air cooled engine. My 1940 John Deere Model L would have looked nice in that line up.

Dave, you are so right it is a group effort. Have you ever heard of the Pageant of the Bands? I think most were class D schools so not a huge crop to choose from. My daughter's class is only 28 students as in when she graduates in 2020 there will only be about 28 students getting diplomas! I like music even if I can't carry a tune in a bucket so Thanks to guys like you for inspiring students to get motivated! Greg

That's my hometown, I was born there 72 years ago. Looks like you took the pictures from my niece's front lawn. I think the tractor is a Gibson. The girl's grandfather restored it and gave it to her a couple of years before he died. He wasn't partial to any particular brand He and his wife worked together restoring tractors and she probably owns most of those tractors. I went down through town about 6:30 am on my way to an auction and most of those chairs were already set up. The fellow on the right in the second and third pictures looks like my wife's brother, hard to tell with the date stamp.
I spent $546 dollars and 7 hours at the auction. Lots of new tools never been opened.
