Jeff's loader had been fixed a few times, rather poorly too and I didn't like it so I fixed it for him right. This is what it looked like to start.

Here is what it looks like now. I posted the step by step on tool talk if your interested.

Here is a pic of my last fix on this loader.

Hey Jon, that looks much better than the previous attempt at "welding" that was done to it. I like your plates with diamond ends. Funny how a lot of times something with that much stress that has up and down and back and forth stress will break, and someone will weld it straight up and down like that. I believe that usually ends in another crack in same place. Ah, but not so much with diamond plates. Good work Jon

Good job. What kind of welder and rod did you use?

What part of the chicken can you use? I might try it. I can make very nice horizontal welds, but when it comes to vertical and out of position welds forget it. I only have a buzz box and a self taught welder with poor eyes.

Have a week to spare? I looked at one that had lots of welds and plenty of places that needed it but didn't have any.

Geo, a 7018 low hydrogen rod is really forgiving for someone thats say kinda new at welding and you can also buy some cheater lens to put in your hood to help you see if you eyes are like mine. And the chicken gizzard works well to.. LOL

Jon, that is the same model loader, Oliver 1610? that I totally cut cut apart, narrowed up,shortened and attached to the Case 440 that is setting in the shop. They were pretty adaptable to many makes and models of tractors. Swartz built them for Oliver.

Looks like it Loren. This one is busted up about as bad as I've seen. Everything from the bend forward is a mess. I'm afraid he's going to ask me to redo that some day too.

I used a Miller Vintage wire feed. I do most everything with mig, except things like high carbon steel. If it's mild steel it's mig welding for me.

Should I thaw the chicken gizzard or use them frozen?
I only have a buzz box, will the 7018 work? The 1/8 inch 6011 rods seem to work well for welding on pitted rusty metal. There is only so much rust you can grind off. Welding out of position the weld seems to run down on me. Can make nice horizontal but my verticals welds look terrible.
I do have a mig, but the small wire doesn't burn in like a stick.
I'm near sighted, so a cheater lens is worthless. I have special glasses for up close, but I'm too far away when welding. Getting old is for the birds, alternative isn't good either.

Hi, I have a buzz box too, just for minor stuff. A rod
called liquid aire 222 is marvelous!! Try it. Works so
good on thin stuff u would think u r professional.

Yes the 7018 will work on a buzz box also. I would rather stick weld than mig weld myself. I guess because ive always welded from a 4 cyl lincoln welder. Yes the 6011 is a good rod also but i think the 7018 is a higher stincle strength. I believe you will like it if you try it.
