Old Car ID Help?

A friend has this photo from about 1917. Does anyone know what kind of car and model it is?

that is a vintage indy racer , they were as many car builders as there are tractor pullers today , most were totally hand built from investers and tinker shops . probably not built by any of the big 3 builders of modern times

Hi CB, I think it is a custom race car body on a Ford model T. What you can see of the running gear looks Ford, the wheels, rear radius rods and axle, the front axle looks right, you can also see the "peak" on the bottom of the oil pan with the front radius rods heading to the ball mount on the oil pan. The exhaust is on the right side for a Ford. And the car is not very big, the passenger's back is not far from the center of the axle. A real race car of that vintage would have been a much more substantial machine than this one, but this is a nice one. It' a Ford.

My stepson has a model T racer that looks similar the boat tail back doesn't drop down on an angle like your picture and doesn't have the curve by the dash board. My dad also raced a model T in the late 20's his also had straighter lines but still a boat tail racer. I remember him telling of a hand pump to pressurize the gas tank he would pump while on the straight away. I also remember seeing his Stutz eight racer behind the garage when I was quite young I got in trouble when I learned I could make it move with the starter, lucky I didn't have the key on.

Can you imagine some mother stopping her daughter; "NO NO, you're NOT going out with that boy in that ..... THING!!"
