Hi Tractor heads
I recently bought a 1946 Ford 2N, it wasn't running much, 20 seconds at a time at most but I decided it sounded ok from what I could hear. She was only running on three cylinders, one plug wire was cut into at the distributor end. the water pump was trash and the wiring a mess. So I rebuilt the distributor including a new points mounting plate, replaced the water pump (but the pulley is still wobbly)Changed it over to 12volts, rebuilt the carb, cleaned and sealed the fuel tank, new plugs and wires, oil change and wiring harness, governor gasket, radiator repair and a good clean up. I got her (LUCY) started last Friday, she was quiet ran like a top, so I used her Saturday all day (with no brakes) and this ticking showed up. It's more prominent at the front of the engine and on the oil filter side. She does burn some oil and the engine oil was thick. At first the oil pressure came and went but now it seems ok. Got any ideas as to what it is. will post videos tomorrow

Emacc68,Don't you think it would have been a good idea to change the oil and filter before putting it to work? There is no telling how old that oil is or how much water is in the pan over the years from condensation, gasket leaks ect.Drain the oil and reach up in the drain hole and try shaking the pickup tube and see if its loose.I hope that you didn't wipe out the bearings.

emacc68.........ummm, runs fer about 20-secs......thats about the runnin' time of fuel in carbie bowl. Sounds like you have a gastank VACUUM. Many times the gastank dome vent is clogged by mud-dobbers and creates a vacuum. Simple check, crack yer gastank fuel cap. They make a "vented" fuel cap fer NAA-600's. ($20, cheap) As fer the "clickin" at the front of engine, could be the rotor in the dizzy hittin' the terminals. As fer oil pressure coming and going, you do know ittza 6-qt (+filter) oil pan don't you? In 1939, Ford spec'd 30wt detergent, and 40wt fer HOT weather work. Since the oil pump is part of the #1 bearing housing, when you drain yer oil, reach up into the oil pan and try to wiggle the screen attached to the sheet metal suck'em-up tube. Wiggles? Guess what??? BAD suck'em-up tube and yer crank shaft throw is clippin' yer sheet metal suck'em-up tube. .......HTH, Dell

Den , looks like oil change was done. Bill

sometimes when you change oil, there is a screen on the plug you take out that fits inside a bowl like thing if you look up in that whole with the oil plug out. sometimes people bend that up when putting plug back in. and bend the oil tube that that connected too. this can cause the tube to hit the crank shaft as it turns. if so be carefull and straiten it back in line with the plug whole.

there are two videos on my you tub page, on the high RPM version see if you can see the new water pump wobble, and the other noise (besides the tick), bearing noise????
