Strange Issue on buying parts whats your take on it??

Wanted to post this for a bit as I find it odd for modern times. There is several outfits I deal with, some even local You want parts for the tractor etc. and they send them, then send a bill. The real issue is the ones from away that don't know me. HOW DO THEY NOT GET BURNED??? As someone could order up $500 (or more) in parts and not pay. Same for the local outfits. Everything else you almost have to pay for beforehand. I DID ASK ONE LADY ABOUT IT AND SHE SAID MOST FARMERS OR TRACTOR COLLECTORS WERE HONEST!!! There is some I have known or dealt with for years so I guess there is some repore built up there.

Have ordered parts from a guy in Texas a few times. He sends the parts to me here in NY with a bill. To say I was surprised the first time I ordered and he said he would put the bill in with the parts is an understatement.

If I sell a part it does not matter what it cost I always ship after I get payment. When I buy parts it's the same way.

Apparently she didn't tell you about their guy who breaks knee caps if you don't pay?

I have bought parts like that also. I get the check in the mail right away. When buying something on EBAY All dealers I have done business with want the money up front. Also when I do work, I don't know the person. I send the bill, most pay. Out of around 70 mowing jobs I do each year, I have only been burned three times in almost 20 years. I think most people are honest. stan

I wrote a $15K check on the wrong account last month. Dealer called and asked if I'd come square it up. Mama's grocery money didn't quite cover the check. :>)

happy to say, in most of my dealings, buying or selling, most people are still honest.
I deal with a few places that if I see something I need when I pick something up and don't have enough cash...
take it, pay me next time.
(i hate to 'owe' so I usually pass, unless it's scarce and I know it will be gone soon)

non-payment isn't a problem.
these fellers would just back in and take the whole tractor their part is attached to. LOL

I order parts from Welters, in Verona Mo. and live here in the Puget Sound area, Welters always sends the bill with the parts, and I immediately send payment. It is kinda like being back home in Illinois, to me! I wouldn't screw it up, for the world.

Easy. Simple. They've learned the same lesson we've learned in 25 years of selling we-pick / you-pick blueberries from our farm; anybody who'll stop along the highway, get out of the A/C in the summer and pick berries, is gonna be good people.
Anybody who'll stop and buy a bag of pre-picked berries, take the time to do so and not just slide into Wally-World, is good people. In 25 years, we've had one or two checks we've had to send back thru the bank a second time, but never a bad check, and only one hot-head.

Welter's is only a few miles east of me here. Going in their shop and seeing all their family, is like going home again somehow. Can't explain it.

I agree. My wife has had a dog grooming biz for 30 years. She has only had 2 bad checks in that time. One was a cop....

I have had it happen. A few years back I ordered several used parts from a guy for an old JD I was working on. He said he would send me an invoice and ship when I paid. Three days later I had a few big boxes dropped off by UPS with my parts in them and an invoice. I was really surprised. Wrote him a personal check and mailed it. I called him a few days later to make sure he got it. "Yep, thanks for your business". Done deal.

I have ordered a couple time from Korves Oliver. They did their business that way shipping the part and the invoice for payment. I always make sure to get payment in the mail right away.... Probably should call to be sure they got it like mentioned below. It sure makes me trust them and want to do more business with them.

I prefer to pay when ordering, especially online, if for no other reason than the PayPal or debit card saves writing the check and $.49 stamp.

When I order calves, my guy picks 'em out, arranges the truck, and sends an invoice with the driver. The check is normally in the mail to him that afternoon. I've never even met the guy! But my Dad bought steers there, and Grandpa before him, so I guess it's kind of a legacy thing.

Have dealt with General Repair Shop in PA several times. Much quicker on sending antique/reproduction parts than the bill. I thought they forgot about the parts, so I called. Said they were really busy and will send bill when they have time. Eventually it arrived. They make and repair parts for old corn and grain binders. Good people.
