Wonder What Bit Me...?

I was out in the pasture spraying thistles at my Mother In Law's yesterday morning. A couple of hours later I saw this on the inside of my hand. Anyone ever
seen something like this? Not sure if I need to see a doctor just in case it may get worse.

Go to the doctor! I'm not medic, but I have seen things like this before. You are sure it's a bite and not a bruise, right? I can see what looks like a puncture, watch it and see what it does in particular. If it begins to get just a little bigger a better reason to see the doc. Spider bite or something similar.

I'll second the spider bite notion. If it starts to look worse you definitely need to see a Dr.. SWMBO got bitten by a brown recluse, led to 6 weeks of IV antibiotics, and she still has a nasty scar on her knee where she got bitten.

John,
I'd go to the doctor TODAY and get it checked out. There is a spider called a Brown Recluse... the venom from it causes necrosis (rotting) of the flesh. It literally kills the flesh and the flesh becomes infected and it spreads. That may be why you see the "darkening" around the bite.

My nephew was bitten by a brown recluse once (uncommon spider in MN) walking home from the pool in sandals. It rotted an area of flesh on the top of his foot that was about the size of a silver dollar pancake. Doctor immediately "debrided" (unsure of spelling) his foot (cutting or scraping away any dead flesh) put him on strong antibiotics for a couple of weeks. I think he had to return for that procedure a couple of times.

Google images of brown recluse spider bites... it will make you want to get it checked out right away.

See the doctor, I have seen slivers of wood hospitalize people with serious infection, brown recluse would be even worse. I remember one guy with a sliver in the same place, hand swelled and infected, he should have went in sooner, good news was he got through it with no problems later, but its one of those things, better to get looked at asap than not.

I had a spider bite me once that looked something like that. My hand swelled up and the doctor gave me 2 types of antibiotics. She said it was really dangerous. I didn't see what bit me either, she said it was a spider.

looks like a spider bite.

As others have said - what's red there is infection - and an infection inside of you has to be taken very seriously.

Your body will probably fight it off well enough on its own - but "probably" isn't very re-assuring when you see what the alternatives are if it doesn't.

Go see a doctor.

Look up spider bite infection if you need any motivation.

My guess is you punctured a vein and its been bleeding under the skin. That said I would get it checked out. There are some bad infections out there. A person could loose a limb pretty easy.

Get to Dr ASAP. My father was bitten on kneecap (Dr guessed) by Brown Recluse. 28 days in hospital, long recovery. Removed all flesh from knee to ankle leaving muscles and shin bone exposed. Dr had talked of removing leg. Nasty infection. 2 surgerys for skin graft after infection stopped.

I agree with getting it seen by a doc ASAP - a fiddleback bite is nothing to mess with, for sure

This is a curious thing that I've noticed over the years: My neighbor across the road (about 500 feet away) has no black widows only lots of brown recluses (aka: fiddlebacks) and I have black widows but have seen only one or two fiddlebacks on my side of the road in over 40 years? The only thing that I can figure is that they cannot peacefully coexist. Which one is the dominant species I can't say for sure BUT if I had to lay money on it I'd put it on the Widow - I'm just glad I've got them and not the recluse

If you have to ask then you probably should get it looked at. I really doubt that it is a brown recluse bite. A couple of questions: Were you using a hand held sprayer and are you right handed? I don't see any broken skin so it looks more like a bruise.

We have brown recluse spiders just about everywhere there is a dark spot here. I keep this spider first aid kit. I've never been bit but I know a few that have and this stuff really works.
