opinions of a farmall 404

I ran across a farmall 404 today. Wide front, really good metal, nearly new rear tires 26x12 (sure that isn't the size for it), have been told that seller can produce papers showing year old complete overhaul. Will look at that close. Would like bigger tires on front as they seem quite small (good shape). What would be normal size? Runs and drives very good, hydrolics work great. outlets on back and both sides.
Bad is it has had an electric fire that has taken out the dash components. So no dash gauges or anthing.
Reason for buying. wide front ease of stearing in the deeper snow conditions. Wife wants to join tractor rides but is scared of narrow front and bounce of narrow front crossing pot holes. I have a 3point blade and that would give me a back up snow plow tractor. the aux hydrolic outlets are set in convenient spots to use on cylinders for splitters, or other hydrolic conversion toys. $2300.

Now the kicker. I have a 50 jd B that has a 2 year old complete overhaul with maybe 2 hours on it. It is in work clothes very solid. Rear tires still have nubbies on them but do to sitting are starting to crack sidewalls. Front tires new. Bad side for this tractor is I have not got 12 volt conversion completed. Needs a bracket to hold alternator. system wired to work. clutch handle/ linkage needs work. Can go from near brake position to hitting the light bar and may or not be fully engaged. Stays engaged. Right brake chatters unless you hold it down very little. This is my 1st tractor purchase so has sentimental value. Seller of 404 asked what value I had on it. I said as it sits $1000. He is willing to give that value and settle for $1200 cash.
My thoughts are Im getting a tractor ready to use. with repairs coming as I can. Typical I don't know what it really is but I do know what my B is. Thing is I cant see myself being able to do repairs soon on the B as I have just started a new job and am at lower pay for quite a while. Farmall I can use now. And I think I could put guage cluster in if I need a temp fix while looking for dash to repair it right.
Opinions please. Thank you.

The only item I feel it lacks is a live PIO. They are not dramatically powerful, but good little tractors. I think it is a reasonable buy Jim

holding the brake slightly to keep it from chattering on your 50 could be the brake shaft bushings needing to be replaced like they did on my jd 60. Bill

" If Mama ain't happy then nobody's happy" kinda applies here.lol Since financially you probably can't keep both, then My opinion is it's a good deal. 404 is lot more useful and repairs probably cheaper. If you have to choose only one, make her happy. Then later on when you find another JD and better off financially, she will be more willing to "ok" it. RB ( also the 404 has a lot more top speed to keep up on tractor rides)
