never realized this weed was hemlock and poison to cattle ,,, I have some sprigs in my hay fields,,.. anyone know if it is STILL poison when hay cured ,???, I lost a 200 lb calf back in feb . mysteriously got sick and died in 24 hours ,, gave it a round of penicillin , next morning it was dead and bloated , like the temps were 90 degrees ,, it was 20..... just trying to learn all I can to combat it

Does it have carrot like leaves, grow 5' tall? It is poisonous in hay or green, cattle are not likely to eat it in pasture unless very little grass is available.Use crossbow or dicamba to fight it,spring or fall recommended. In our our county in Ky.,Our extension office put on a weed control program.Several weeds cows won't eat green, can be in hay and then they might eat them.I was surprised about milkweed for example.Talk to your extension agent.Mark

Google poison parsnip. I think that is what you may have. Thick stalk, tall with a yellow flower?

Break or cut the stock. If it is hollow it is hemlok. Young kids like sucking on these as a straw. It will and has killed. burn/ Cut it down.
