Will a good healthy farmall 806 run with a ih 966 thier close on
horsepower but the 966 is 53 cubic inches more so thinking thier maybe
a little more torque! I only ran my gas 806s and I know thiers no
comparison! But planning rebuilding a 806 diesel soon and wondering
if it would pull my tillage equipment cause it all max my 9s out!

Gas or Diesel? When you do the rebuild are you going to open the head up and let it breath more? Or do any other modifications to increase power? If diesel are you going to turn up the pump? Are the 9's gas or diesel and if diesel have the pumps been tweaked? What size and types of equipment?

I don't think they made a 966 gas. I believe the 966 will out do a 806 unless maybe the 806 had a 407 in it. then it would be a tossup. Or if the 806 had a turbo installed.

We had a 966 and 856. They were supposed to be neck and neck power wise. I always felt the 856 was stronger. They were both stock with identical transmissions, but it just seemed that Big Red got more power to the wheels. I always equate an 806 to an 856 but maybe that's not right. Anyway, you may be surprised at what the 806 would do.

I think they will interchange pretty close if they are both in good shape. I used to pull 6 16's with an 806D with duals. A 20 ft disc and 8 row planter all back in the late 70's and 80's. My 806 is getting tired so need to freshen her up some. It has been pushing 40 years since it has been sleeved. The 806 has the D-361 engine, the 856 has the D-407 The 966 has a D-436 non turbo I believe.

Don't know much about ih, but the difference between a case 970 and 1070 is 401 and 451. The 10 has more power, but unless you have it loaded to the max the 970 will also do the work.

What is a wod? If you are going to be critical of somebody else's grammar, perhaps you should be more mindful of your own. That said, I wonder if this guy's keyboard is broken because he punctuates every sentence with an exclamation point. Alright, I'm done.

Have run both and it would be a tossup, but my gut tells me the 806 would likely win out. That D361 is a tough old brute. Though, the 966 would have better hydraulics, shifts better, and the 436 engine will run and run.
