Did the 12v conversion kit on a 1944 farmall h. Now the original belt that went to the generator is now to long going to the alternator. Does anyone know what belt size I need? Thank you in advance

Sorry I cant help you with the size but I went through the same thing on a different tractor. Its a pain getting just the right size . When you do get it, if your tractor has a little tool box on it write the number on the bottom of the lid.

if the old belt is a bit cracked, or disposable, cut it in one place with a razor knife, then put it on the pulleys and stretch it past its end and mark it. cut it at the mark, and use it to select a new belt. getting one that is a bit longer, and a bit shorter would be nice if you can take them back. If there is a bit of adjustment, the first measurement will do. Jim

I've always reused the stock belt on all of mine. But, I think the "cut the old belt and measure with it" method will work best.

Good idea to write the belt number on tool box, the way I do it is I save the belt sleeves mark what they go to and stapel them to a spot on shop wall. Some of the odd stuff like log splitter and deck belts on mowers. joe

Looking around local Harbor Freight yesterday, I noticed they stock these aduustable V-belt things, segmented, piece-together belts. Was green, veryheavy duty looking, thick, stiff. Looked really good. NO idea if they work or not.

(quoted from post at 19:03:41 05/29/15) How did you mount the alternator?

Pretty sure mine is stock belt.

Piece of pipe with allthread on the original lower bracket. I used a GM rebuilt alternator but had to make the adj bracket on top but the original belt worked.

Thanks i bought the kit that uses the
original bracket but belt is to small the
alternator is smaller then the one you have
even with no adjustment bracket there's no
way to get the belt tight no matter were u
move the alternator

Mine is like that with the Hitachi alternator, but do not remember if I turned the bracket over to raise the alternator up.
