Hi all you good buddies and lasses out there i have a question on the early 8Ns I forgot where the coil gets the 6 volt starting elec from and where it gets the 4.2 volt for running i think someone has changed the wiring around and 6 volts is getting to the coil all the time and i know from the old days that doesn't work if anyone knows where this voltage starts from et. the switch through the resister for 4.2 but i do not know where it picks up the 6 volts for starting. if i run a jumper from te battery to the coil it starts right up but i want to wire it right thanks

Now this is for one converted to 12 volt with an alternator. Just pay attention to the ignition circuit portion. Both the 12 volt conversion and 6 volt uses the resistor mounted below the AMP meter on a terminal block. Only the ignition wire uses the resistor. Very simple system and you can make a wiring harness for it with soldered connectors and shrink tubing in less than an hour.

You should really go there and introduce yourself. Lot of knowledge here on YT that most folks share freely. The site owners were smart enough to have various pages for the different brands and 2 for Fords. One for the N series and another for the rest. There is also a page for implements, garden tractors, old trucks and more. Just go to the upper right on modern view just above the page numbers for the "jump to" another forum or to the left of the page to discussion forums to find what you need.
