Larry,
I would think you could get a belt at any good automotive store if there are any close to you. Napa has always been a good source for me here in Minnesota. Good luck sir.

I looked at model 272 Mower in J/Parts, does 187" long sound right?
Deere # M83556 show's a 128.96 retail, also list a alt part number of
A-M83556 for 43.92.. If there is still a number legible on the old belt
( I doudt ) you could check to be sure? But if it were me & these numbers
matched I would compare price at a auto parts cross reference & see if they
can cross it * order a new belt. Might not hurt to try your local JD dealer
& see if they come up with the same number. I sell Ford truck & car parts
Not many Deere parts? LOL If you could buy a Dayton BLUE belt or a Gates GREEN
belt they cost more & they are worth it...

For our Woods mower on a Farmall C, we ran a 50' tape all the way around the run, then looked it up online, and ordered one for about $45, B225. Fit perfect and runs well. Of course to do this the old belt still has to be in place.

My caution would be to make sure you are getting an equivalent belt rating, aftermarket belts are not necessarily as capable as the OEM belts. I learned this the hard way with our Cub Cadet and Woods mowers.

Is there a bearing/belt supply house anywhere in the area? Take the old belt to them and tell them that your want an "Industrial Belt" of the same size. It will last a lot longer than any other belt you may find.

Larry
Tx Jim gave the belt specs, take them to the local NAPA and they can probably get the belt--if the counter man/girl is any good.
Second choice is a small engine/mower shop they can get the belts if their attitude is any good.

Husband gets belts at the local hardware store... they have a great selection. He buys the ones that are encased in cloth (?). Price is higher but they last longer.

Order from NAPA. JayDee enterprises is where I get my belts from. About half of Deere(sometimes even less).

If you have an Industrial Supply company around your area take the belt there they'll match it up and you'll get a much better quality belt for less $$$ than at an ag belt supplier.Same goes for bearings

You have to be careful on mower belts as JD and Cub Cadet for sure use oddball sized belts made just for them. JD was usually not as crazy on belt prices as Cub Cadet was but I have not bought any for awhile and things have changed too.

Looks like the part number is M83556. 184.66 cdn. Likely around 135-155 usd. It's available through A&I for 62.89cdn. Likely around $50 usd. A&I part number is A-M83556

Thanks all for the great info,,,I passed a jd today in whitehouse nj.....they want 137 dollars with tax,,,napa could not cross it,,,but I got some good places from you all to send for it,I Have some time I Think,,,, it still mows but has a crack in it,and will need one soon ,,, thanks very much

larry@stinescorner,

i seriously just ordered two of them on V-beltsupply.com put in the deere part number and i think they were 25 ish a piece and they are having a special, put in HERO25 i think when you check out and it takes 10% off, the shipping is kinda odd, but i have bought a lot of belts from them over the years and have had good luck. The last set was the hydro drive belts for my 8820 and still going strong.
