OT. What A Way To Wake Up!!

Woke up this morning to a bunch of screaming and yiping, I knew the sound instantly, coyote's... JUMPED out of bed, SPRINTED down the hall, grabbed the gun, literally blasted out the front door and there were two of them RIGHT IN MY FRONT YARD!!!

One of moms cats was in their clutches, they had just caught him and were starting to try to tear the poor ole boy apart!!!! Lined up and pulled the trigger, 1st one rolled 3 times and then stopped. 2nd one took off running, racked another one, and hit it broad side when it tried to go around the house. Still ran off, but I very clearly got a good shot on it. I suspect it didn't make it far....

Guess that backhoe will be needed today!!

Best part is mom was just SCREAMING the whole time "KILL EM KILL EM!! SHOOT! KILL EM!". I guess thats what you get for messing with mommas cats?! :)

One things for sure..... I LOVE my new gun. :)

As soon as they let go he RAN right for me, and went under the front deck. Haven't seen him since.

He didn't look bad to me, but we will see when he come out... Mom is working on him right. Said that he seems "odd"....

no bs? really? Gee.... I wonder why?! :

Yea, we got coyotes all over around here too in west Michigan. I don't know if you can shoot them or not without some kind of a permit.

triple S policy-

Shoot em dead
Shovel them deep
Shut your mouth

Good man! What did you use to "get" them? My SIL's Great Dane got bit in the nose during an "altercation" with coyotes. Been messed up in the head since. I've been told not to bury them but to spread the bodies at the far perimeter of the property as a warning to the others. Supposedly it keeps them away for a long time.

Good job Bryce! The tree hugger types want all wildlife left alone untile the "Yotes" tear Fluffy or Sparky's guts out. Then it is " Why dont somebody do something?"

I am no nervous nellie but as long as the topic is here. 6 weeks ago, my 70ish year old neighbor on the back side of the section apparently was mowing his lawn and seen a coyote that had been messing around his place. He jumped off the mower and went into the house and grabbed a 30-30. There was an empty cartridge found by the open back door to his house. Dale was found in the drive with the (fired)rifle laying close, his shoes (Crocs) laying a couple feet to each side of him and a hole through his head. Mower was running, house door open and shop open when a friend stopped in.

The Sheriff figured he had run and grabbed the gun, took a shot from the door frame and then ran to get a follow up shot and tripped dropping the rifle. This man had used guns his whole life!

Sometimes we dont think well when tired, preoccupied, panicky etc. Keep this in mind.

I pulled into the driveway this morning around 4:30 and the rabbits scattered, but didn't go too far. I went in and got the pellet gun. I'll admit I'm a lousy shot but when the dam thing lets me get within 10 feet after shooting at it from farther away and missing, well then it's an easy shot.

Found out on Monday I got a baby with the lawnmower too... saw a little tuft of fur on the next pass. Come hell or high water I'm gonna wittle down the bunny population this summer. Hope to work on the grackles too.

that's the spirit , plug them all ,. my saras roger cat got away from a coyote. barely ,... but he did over 1500 damage till the vet refused to charge any more to get him patched up ..

You have a bunny population? We see about 2 per year here on our 200 acres. About a week ago one was killed on the road in front of our house. Damn! Now we only have one!

GOOD JOB!! Bryce!!! Coyotes are too destructive to let get out of hand. The home farm is full of them as there is County conservation ground behind it. The coyotes den in the limestone bluffs. There are a bunch of little caves that are not very bog but the female coyotes can get in them.

We have had calves killed and hurt by them. We usually kill 30-40 coyotes each year. We did not have much trouble with them until about 10-15 years ago. Since then they have been thick.

I have to watch letting the dogs out at night because the coyotes come too close to the house for me.

Here in Idaho we have:

"The right to deadly force in order to protect personal property or life" when it comes to animals.

That is actually what a local Sheriff told me...

However I usually use the mentioned, Shoot-Shovel-Shut up policy....

Well, we (I and mom watched) got the cat out from under the deck at 9 something. Then she wanted him to go to the vet to get checked out. SO, I was in charge of that. Dropped him off an hour away, went to work, then went back to go get him.

Said that he has "serious bruising and trauma, however there are no serious injuries"...

So, he is home, some what happy, and even has all his hair!

$47..... Not as bad as I thought it would be...

A big city paper had a picture of a young guy who ran over some Ducks that were crossing the road. City folk will want to hang him. Personally, I value human life and everyone's' safety over that of animals, and would have done the same thing as he did, before I created a road hazard by stopping in traffic on a busy road. As long as you know you did the right thing, then don't worry about the nay sayers.

i am not very fond of cats but i hate coyotes they kill lots of rabbits pheasants and cats.
i hate to think of all the cats we have lost over the past several years. they are here at bed time and the next day we never see them again.
Mrs 730 loves most cats and of course it's the ones she likes most the disappear.
when i hear those darn things at night i get the 22 out and shoot a couple of rounds into the ground.
after 2 shots they get quiet real fast.
there is a bunch of guys around here that hunt those critters in winter when they hear gun shots they know that means trouble

If they are in the act of destroying your property I.E. Chickens , pets, dogs, etc. you can kill them without a permit or license.

I'm in SE Ohio, hear the darn things all around us but never have seen one nearby. We have 100 acres of flat, open ground all around the house and barns. I think they are afraid of the llamas too and don't approach our place. Still, I go out at night with mama's little Boston Terrier dogs, wouldn't due to get one snatched by a brave 'yote.
