Leave it in or take it out

While mowing today I ran over a board with a nail. My first thought was to pull it out. I left it in, and finished mowing, with this piece of wood nailed to my front tire. In the past I pulled the nail out. That is a instant flat tire. Getting close to having my gas powered compressor in the back of my puck up. Stan

While the guys were shingling the old farm house a couple years ago, some one using the riding mower to pull the little trailer ran over a board with a nail. Tire flat so I pumped it up, found the hole and inserted a nice nail in the hole for temporary repair. It's still in the tire and I don't really have to air it up any more than a couple times a season, like all the other tires anyway. Have to take care of that one of these days.

Tubeless tire? If so it may hold for a bit while you finish up. Years back I picked up a nail in a tire driving through Utah in the middle of the night. I pulled it out and ran a screw in it and it held great all the way home. You will have to fix it right eventually.

Geez, wish I had your luck with screws. I've tried that a couple of times with no luck. Air just leaked through the threads. Maybe if I had some sealant to put on, it may have worked.

an one with the added by me screw for years. Tubeless only, though.

Found a nail in the front tire of my car about six miles from home.

Left it in there and drove home really slowly: click.........click..........click..........click. Made it though.

Several years ago I did a small amount of disking with my ZA MM after the corn was combined. I kept hearing this crunching noise. The tractor was actually being supported somewhat by the cornstalks then would drop down on some of them. I agree they are tough.

I've learned to leave them in. If I remember, I throw the air tank in the truck as well as a spare front tire. Been lucky so far with the rears.....knock on wood.

I found a 12v compressor in my dumpster. Tenant threw it away. I removed the end that plugged in to the cigarette lighter, put an extension cord on it so I can agitator it to the battery. Works good enough for me if I have to air up a lawn mower tire and I'm away from the shop. Only needed it a few times. I have a portable 120v compressor I could put in the back of the truck if I knew I would need to air something up too. It has a good size tank.

Depending on where the nail is, leaving it could damage the tire more. I had the side wall of my front tire extensively damaged. Ended up replacing the tire.
