My wife was on computer and picked up a Trojan virus off Facebook. Anybody know of a way to get rid of this, or does it have to go to the computer shop for repair. Thanks for your help.

if you want free software, go to ninite.com from the menu look for a column marked security. click the boxes marked.....avast.....malwarebytes.....and the bottom one marked super. then on the bottom hit the big green button that says get installer. ninite will bundle the software and install it for you. run full scans with avast, then malwarebytes, the super antispyware. it will clean your system up and monitor it. you will be amazed at how much spyware is on your system.

During the install, be sure to uncheck the standard install, and decline/uncheck
all the add-ons they want to put on your computer. Just install the malwarebytes program.

At least try a restore before you haul it off to the repair man.
Click Start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.
If you got the virus longer than 5 days ago click on show restore points older than 5 days and go back a couple of weeks or so.
Some viruses disable your restore function.
So if restore doesn't work do a cold boot (unplug the computer from the wall while it's running) and then plug it back in and restart. When it's booting up and you get the prompt to start in safe mode click that.
After it fully boots in safe mode then do the restore.

steve, i run all three of these on my puters and they do a good job of catching stuff.i also use mozilla firefox instead of internet explorer or google chrome.

One tip ... on your computer, create a new user that is NOT the default user (Admin User) that existed when you bought the machine. Create a user without 'Administrative Rights' or permissions and log in as that user when you visit websites -- this could help reduce the impact of the damage (particularly on older versions of Windows).

Some malware or viruses depend on the logged-in user having administrative rights, so when the malware runs it can possibly do more damage to your machine, access your accounts, passwords, saved data or history from surfing the web.

I recommend using Google Chrome browser:
http://www.google.com/chrome/

With that, go here and add adblock:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom?hl=en

And then, here for adblock plus:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb?hl=en-US

This will block 95% of the nasties you see on the web, and prevent obscene and obtrusive ads from popping up on you. I have that combo and haven't had to worry about browsing at all.

If you have windows 8 with a FREE security system like Microsoft security essentials. Don't update your computer to windows 8.1 you have to select 8.1 don't do it this will disable your security system and try to force you to buy Norton's security system. It can also come as an optional up date look at the up dates first before you install it if its 8.1 don't install it. Some of the Freeware may work and work well with 8.1 just ask the guys here if they have it on 8.1.

Download and install the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware.
It should clean the computer. You will need to install some kind of
antivirus program after it is clean. I like the Avast free antivirus.
Malwarebytes
