Drive your tractor to school

On the way to work this morning I noticed that the local school kids were having their annual drive your tractor to school day. Was a decent size JD and a big Allis in the parking lot. I go by about 7:15 and school doesn't start till 8 so it was pretty early for them yet. I had a sigh of relief when I saw them in the parking lot for two reasons. A) I did not get stuck behind one on a back road where you cannot see to pass and B) The school still allows it. They usually get 15-20 tractors which isn't too bad for a school that only graduates less than 50/yr.

The year my youngest graduated from Howell HS there was a good sized IH in the parking lot. I am guessing 1086 or larger but it was always too far away to tell for sure.

The Allis I saw was definitely in the 7000 range and looked pretty good from the road, all painted up big chrome turnout stack and duals. The JD was a bit newer and smaller but couldn't tell what model.

I live in Riverside Ca. We do not have these events in our schools but I think it would be a nice to have. The times have change us so much here where I live. That we do not have these things any more our High school kids use to show off there projects in one of our shoping malls for a weekend. It was a fun thing for us in the town to enjoyed it but our school district claims that there is no founding for this stuff any more. It is just crazy to me because where I live we at one time was know for citurs and other farm goods. Brent.

I think our local school still does that.
A good way to have some parts come up missing from your tractor though.
I loaned some JD hyd. tips to a neighbor kid so he could take his tractor and plow to school. Tip covers came up missing !

my niece and nephew are taking my farmall h and oliver 66 this morning, Edgar, Wisconsin. Drove by school at 6:30, saw a half dozen tractors already their, kids must have gotten up pretty early, saw a MX something I-H, newer Deeres, in addition to the antique tractors, great that the school still allows...

Apparently, the plaintiff's bar has not yet gotten ahold of this but they will and that will be the end of such custom.

My son and his friends started drive your tractor to school his last two years of being in school. He took our john deere 60 the first year and the second year (after a 12 year rest period with a bad radiator) our 2 cyl 830. The 830 turned into a father son project to get it up and running again . Both years there were about 10 tractors ranging from garden tractors to 100+ hp. tractor. The year he drove the 830 I tried to convince him not to drive it because it was pouring rain but he drove it anyway. Bill

We drove this to school in late 50's when Mom and Dad couldn't take us. 3 miles. Front of cab was more closed in then. I think it is a great thing that the Kids today can have a tractor day. And keep the lawyers out of it. Accidents might happen just like they do with Hot cars.

When I was teaching in a farming community we had tractor day with no interference< the boys drive tractors caused no trouble. I remember them driving slow circles on the parking lot singing "Thank God I Am A Country Boy"

I was in HS in the late 50's.. when I was 14-15 I drove a tractor to school from time to time..just to break the monotony of peddling
my bike. We had an hour lunch break and a few times per week I had to be at the farm around noon to receive feed or bedding(saw
dust)..as my Dad worked off the farm from time to time. That all stopped when I became 16 and got my own car.. which my dad spent
300 bucks for. I remember dating when I was too young to drive .. driving to town on my dad's then new JD 50. I parked it in the back
of the IH dealer lot at the edge of town... long time ago... many fond memories of a gentler time.

I graduated in 2003 and we never had "drive your tractor to school day" at my school but most of the smaller schools in the area did. That always ------ me off. I wanted to so bad, but I bet there would have been only a handful of tractors if we would have had it anyway.

Local school does this, they meet at a local restaurant for breakfast, then caravan to school. Not to of a big turnout but went well..

At our local high school, the kids can take an agriculture power and technology course that allows them to bring a tractor to school for demonstrations in the schools tech shop once a year.
