OT - Digital Camcorder Recommendations

This summer we are going to try to get some video of our haying - something other than iPhone snippets.

Don't want to break the bank, but also want the video compatible with Apple and youtube uploads.

Any recommendations?

No fooling. The regular Digital cameras have gotten so good that a dedicated video camera is almost a joke. If you take a home use "video" camera apart You have an optics assembly some circut boards, a view screen, and a video memory card. The rest of the body is empty. If you buy a GOOD camera such as a Nikon cool pix you get a superior glass lennse system because vidio can get away with plastic lenses. You also get a better prossesor board. And a way better image chip. Cameras use 16mp and up in the better cameras. The video that a cool pix takes is 1080p quality and that is HD quality. Plug it into your HD 55 inch TV. You will get far more use out of the camera. I have both and GET the camera hands down! Jeffcat
 
I just bought 2 Sanyo xacti pistol-grip camcorder/cameras on ebay for under $30 each. Great video, good photos. Easy to use.
Tiny, fits my pocket. I put one in each truck for magic moments.

Also, most tractor videos should be shot by a bystander, not from the seat of the tractor.
 
Look into "Go Cameras" they are a waterproof/shockproof type of camera. There designed for the outdoors adventurers people and have many options for mounting, are small and easy to use. Prices are in the $150 on up range.

Ive been kicking around the idea of getting one to take with to plowing bee's. Between the options of mounting brackets and a few of my welding skills I think I could mount/fabricate a bracket pretty much anywhere on my tractor or plow I want.
 
Get someone to take the videos as you are plowing. I don't spend a lot of time looking at videos of mufflers moving down a field or furrows rolling over mile after mile. Forget about mounting cameras on the tractors and making boring videos.
