I think rebuilding water pumps is getting to be a thing of the past. At least here where I live it is. I did find one some distance away. Debating rather to send it by ups, or taking a drive. How about where some of you live, is there still shops that rebuild pumps? The pump is for my AC Model M. Stan

I usually rebuild my own,but the last two that I've needed,a new aftermarket was only $20 more,so why fight with them and risk breaking a casting.

I had to rebuild my 1550's pump last year and could not find anyone local for parts or rebuilds. I'm kind of cheap and hard-headed, and like to do my own work so I got parts from Kellog Automotive in Az. and spent less than a pump would cost on a 12 ton press from HF. Worked out fine and the press paid for itself. I just go the parts for a Buda pump last week. Kellog rebuilds obsolete water pumps and sells parts. Catalogs are on his website.

I rebuilt the water pump on a Galion 118 grader that had an IH UD554 a few years back. Could not get any sort of kit, that's kind of hard to find engine anyway, and a great big pump, so I had to have the seals specially made. Can't remember for the life of me where they were ordered from. I can give you the number of the guys that measured them and ordered them for me. I used to work for a division of this company, and they helped me a great deal in getting parts for my pump. I had to send it over to them so they could get measurements off from it. Whether them or another one of their branches still does it, I don't know. Worth a call I guess. Try this: (616)538-2400. These guys are in MI, so a long way from you, but if you have no options and they could help....

You would need to take measurements of your old pump so you would know were the impella and drive hub need to be then be rite smart at were and what you need to press on/off... You break a few you learn rite fast

Its about the labor the parts are cheap... Its time consuming I like to get paid well for my time as I am sure most do... Practice on a few no good pumps then make the call...

i have the same problem i need to get the one on my 1951 ford tudor rebuilt its the 226 flathead 6, places list them, but nobody actually has one

It's an old AC. Just scrap it and the pump won't be a problem....

Actually some of the old stuff is getting to the point of that. Either restore it and park it in a shed or run it till it breaks and scrap it. But when one person in two years is looking for a part one in stock stuff is gone you are going to be SOL on it. And with as much stuff has already been crushed and sent to China used parts are going to disappear fast.

Speaking of water pumps, I have 3 water pumps for AC WD or WD45 that need rebuilding. Does anyone buy cores for these. I hope they are worth something besides scrap metal. I don't have the WD any more.Thanks.

Haven't rebuilt a water pump since Wednesday.....do a lot of mainly JD pumps here. Deere offers kits for most applications.

If it's a common pump like off a Ford 8n or Case SC. You are better off buying a brand new pump. I haven't had any problems yet with new water pumps. I've had several rebuilt pumps that leaked. Several of the bad rebuilts came from NAPA auto parts.

I know you hate NAPA but even when I worked as a mechanic and most of the parts the shop owner purchased were NAPA we didn't have as many defective parts in 2 years as you have in 3 months.

NAPA did get a bad batch of reman water pumps back around 98/99. They immediately stopped selling rebuilds and found a different supplier. They were very up front and let all of their customers know what was going on. I believe now all they sell is new pumps. I'll have to check. So that problem was solved many years ago.

The bad water pumps were done by a company in Mexico. They were supposed to rebuild them What they were doing was cleaning them up, putting new impellers on and calling it a rebuild.

Funny you should mention that because in about 97 I got a rebuilt from napa for a small block chevy and got it all painted up and put on and everything back together and when I started adding water I could hear something. Looked underneath and the water was coming out the weephole faster than it was on the one I took off! Not to bash napa as I still buy a lot of parts there but also got an alternator there for a 92 chevy p/u around 99 and when I started truck it squealed so loud it hurt your ears. I shut it off within about 2 seconds ( maybe less) and the thing had gotten hot so fast I couldn't even touch it! Unbelievable how fast it got hot.
