Old small bale loader

Were these made/sold in the USA?

I can remember them being used here in the early 1960's, sure saved hard work pitching up bales with a pitchfork. A frame bolted to the trailer chassis with fast hitch to pick up the bales off the ground. Chain drive from the loader wheels.

Quite a few of the "Knieb" pop-up bale loaders around here in the '60s. Same principal as yours. Little different design and appearance.

many different designs made, some were pull type ground drive, some bolted to the tractor and were PTO driven some had chains to lift the bales, some had a huge circle design that lifted the bales.

A lot of them out here on the west coast. Henry, Cherokee, Allis Chalmers, and newhouse to mention a few. The first two were what they call a popup. The second two were pretty much just like the one in your picture other than they were height adjustable. Still have a popup that we use every so often.

My dad used to have one when I was a kid. I was too young to remember if it was the same brand as that one, but I remember that it worked well.
I think he traded it in (plus quite a few other implements along with it) for a new baler.

Still use one for what isn't round baled.
Now if I could just hire high school boys that could put up a tight stack!!! Soon the riders will be big enough to be good help.

Here"s the one my Dad built in the late 50s, for Roto-Baler bales. Drive was car axle, back thru 3 spd transmission.

Thank you. When I was a kid, it seemed like a lot of people had them, and I have been trying to figure out who made those for years. I googled the images and that is the one I remember. I haven't seen one for probably 25 years or more.
