need replacement E range tires

I posted this on the Transporting board but will post here also. I need a new set of E range tires for my 2008 Dodge 3500. I have had three sets of Firestone Transforce AT's and every set has gone out of round before they are worn out. What tires are folks running? Thanks. Mike

I have had transforce tires and hated them. Same problem you are having. The last set I bought was a used set of nitto mt mud grapplers E range. More aggressive than I really needed but a good price so I took a risk on them. Had 5k when I got them and have got 30 more out of them so far with proper rotations. Regularly pull 25 ft goosenecks with equipment. They have held up good. Great off road and not too loud on highway. Will definetly buy again maybe in the AT version. I have heard the toyo open country AT is basically the same tire but a little cheaper.

Got to watch toyo. They put load range E on any tire that can carry over 3 thousand. So in bigger sizes you are usually getting a D rated tire unless you specify the heavy ply rating.

I like Coopers. Boss runs wrangler authority AT with good luck. Dynapro MT work well too. Good puncture resistance in both. The BFG all terrain TA don't like to be loaded regularly I'd stay away from them on a work truck or a diesel.
If someone near you carries them Capitol AT tires are pretty good for being FOC (fresh outta china) imports. A set of 15s on an f150 just got one dismounted for the first time to get patched over the weekend, they've been on it and regularly overloaded for 2 years now. Probably put a set on my Cummins when I get it fixed. Co-op has them for about 125 each.

I had a set of Cooper's on a one ton that I hated. E rated and they went out of round really early. Still had half of the tread left. Cooper would not stand behind them saying I overloaded them. OK fine.
Went to Michelin LTX and really like them. Great driving tire and so far are still round. Almost wore out now with 60k on them. I will buy them again.

I run GOODYEAR DURA TRACKS on my trucks. They are load range E. Great tread for getting around, but not too loud on the road. Ran the last set for almost 70,000 miles.

I've had good luck with BF Goodrich on the one ton. All Terrains on the rear and highway tread on the front. Bought this set in 2007 and very little sign of weathering. Truck lives outside and only gets about 3 or 4 thousand miles a year.

Michelin LTX for all season, h-way. BFG AT's for mild A/T tire. If you need aggressive mud tires they wont last real long but the BFG KM2 has been a good tire for me too.

I'm just finishing up putting 70,000 miles on a set of the Firestone HT on my 04 Dodge. I'll probably replace them with the same thing. They have held up well for me but then it's almost all highway miles pulling a trailer so they get an easy life.

Our Dodge 3500 came with B F Goodrich tires on it and they have 48000 miles on them with no problems. Great tire and they still have good tread on them.

I put a set of Mastercrafts on my 2014 Ram after the first set only lasted 12000 miles....They are wearing very nicely and they were reasonably priced. They look just like a cooper.

Mike that is not enough information for an experienced tire man to help you. what size 16', how do you use the truck? are you looking for mileage, traction, etc? If you are looking for mileage our tests done on pickups pulling campers allover the US showed Michlin LTX's to be the best. They were tested against Goodyear, Firestone, Cooper, BFG, and several off brands such as Toyo, Yokahama, and some of the China built stuff. If you are looking for all season traction BFG and Michlin were pretty much even when it came to tire life. I wish I still had the figures to quote you.

The size is 265 70R 17. I do a fair amount of flatbed trailer work with GVW upward of 20,000 lbs. A lot of my driving is empty driving but I still do a lot of trailer work. I also drive on some gravel (better known in Missouri as mud) and need traction as well. I am a farmer and cannot use a strictly highway tread tire. Off the beaten path too much for that, but I don't need a true mud tire. Mike

Same here! I put a brand new set of MasterCraft "MSR" Mud/Snow/Rain or something like that. Pretty much a slightly aggressive "All Season". Came siped, and then I had them studded at Walmart (winter tires). Buddy has been running the same tires, he gets 4 winters out of them, then pulls the studs, and so far has this spring on them, and I would guess 40-50% still?! Pretty nice tires!

GOOD tread, fairly cheap, I paid $550 for 4 265/75-R16 "E's" for my truck... I am happy.

I run BFG All Terrains. LT285/70-17, load range Es. 83,000 miles, going to change them this summer.
They are not the quietest tire, but all I heard from others was how long they lastest.
I will put up with noise for the extra wear life.

Dont know if youre a dually or not, you may need to stay with 265s. My trucks are SRW.

I switched from Michelin LTX to Cooper Discoverer last Fall- they plowed really well, and seem to carry the weight, although not really pushed them yet. Much better ride, but will probably result in quicker wear, Michelin is hard, but long-wearing.

I made the mistake of buying these from the country store south of me rather than my go-to tractor tire guy east. They killed him on the quoted price, then tried to slip in the nitrogen fill, $6 valve stems, $5 per tire disposal fee, muffler bearings, etc. to the cost of $30 per tire more than the quote. My maturity got the better of me during the settlement, and I just told him the $120 bucks would be far less than the negative advertising I will spew for as long as I can remember to anyone who asks... A shame, too, they were real friendly and fairly quick service.

If all else fails when choosing between two different tires. Usually the tire that weighs more has better durability.

Because Mastercraft are Cooper. The ones with Mastercraft are supposed to be just a little cheaper than the Cooper. And factory is at Findlay, Ohio
