New Holland bale wagon

A dealer close to us has a New Holland square bale stacker wagon on his lot. I'm thinking it would be better than having a bunch of kids loading the hay onto wagons. My only question is, will it work ok on hill side fields. I'm kinda thinking that it wouldn't do very well and that the bales would go to the down hill side and fall off when they are picked up & stacked. I'm also thinking that's probably the reason why we just don't see them in our area. Keith

Depends on what you call "Hilly" I have some rolling fields, my old stacker does pretty well on them, and My stacker is very well used, meaning things are not really where they should be so the stack is not very tight.

Hi Keith It depends how the machine is set up they have hill stops on the side of the second table and trips on the first table so it will only trip with three bales on as it should. In extreme cases bales may be only able to be picked up uphill which would make the machine slow and less efficient. I use one and find it good but I am in a fairly flat area. An operators manual is a must and Roeders somewhere in Kansas had a great website explaining how these machines work. Another alternative is an accumulator and front end loader mounted grab system. These are very popular in Australia.

A lot of our ground is re claimed strip mine ground in south eastern hills of Ohio, basically on the western edge of the Appalachian mountain foothills so yes they are pretty steep in some places.

Some models of the self-propelled ones like to break axles too on steep hills. Also, none of the self-propelled like wet ground.
