This is what you will be charged if you ignore the notice from the city to mow your weeds

Mow one acre 450.00
Hand labor sq ft if needed 00.10
sq ft Mow over one acre 00.02
Administrative charge 350.00
posting notice after first notice. 50.00
Assessment fee (adding to taxes) 275.00

This is a private company hired by the city. Most of these people don't read their tax bill statements, and just pay the property tax. Not realizing what just happened to them. I think I better raise my prices. Stan

Got a letter like that for a vacant two acre treed lot we own on a lake. I'm working on clearing while on vacations so we can build. I got hold of the violation officer and met them at then property. Asked him what exactly he wanted me to do. He looked at the lots and said "nothing, it is virgin forest and the law doesn't apply to you". Said it was meant for people that have lawns and don't mow.

We had the city write us at the tire store and demand we mow the grass,first it was the city right-of-way, second it was not even on our place, it was for a warehouse next door. Good times with city hall!

Here they have a noxious weed board that operates during the summer months in Spokane County. Part-time workers drive around looking for fields that have not been controlled and will send out a notice. Mowing or spraying is an acceptable means of control, I think spraying is well over $100 an acre from private sprayers. If the weed board hires them most will up the rate, the weed board assesses various fees and surcharges and last I heard it comes up to around $500 an acre for a small field. The bill is tacked onto the property taxes. Since I can mow most fields for $30-35 an acre I get a lot of work from noxious weeds. I'm one of the few that won't raise rates when I find out it is work imposed by the weed board...and find a lot of customers are afraid to say they got a letter from the weed board just for this very reason. Most have enough problems already without getting screwed over by a provider.
