Hey all. I know this has been spoken of before but I wanted to reopen discussion on putting a turbo on a 4230. Am looking for specifics. Have heard using a 4430 exhaust manifold and turbo and an wxhaust elbow of a 4320. What about the oil feed line and drain line off of turbo? Are they already pre drilled in engine block or do you have to install them?

Using the free parts book on the JD web site will eliminate all doubt.

oil feed line is just plugged in the oil filter housing. Remove the plug and replace it with the correct adapter for the turbo oil line. On the other side of the block is the same way. Remove the plug and install the turbo drain.

I put a non-turbo combine engine (basically a 4230) in my 4430 two winters ago. It was pretty straight forward. I'm not sure about needing the 4320 elbow or if just a complete system off a 4430 would work. Probably depends on the hood hole.

Deerebuick is correct, look at jd parts book for all the parts.

A friend of mine years back put a M&W turbo kit off a 4020 on his 4230.I think every thing on the block will except the 4430 parts the only thing will be the air cleaner I think not being big enough.

Did our 4230 3 or 4 years back. Started out as a combine engine. Now turboed around 150hp. Really good tractor (open w/synchro). Sometimes play and sometimes work. Nice
running tractor with plenty of reliable power.

b&d seeing how a 4230 came from the factory with no turbocharger how on God's green earth is a JD parts catalog going to HELP determine the correct exhaust elbow so muffler protrudes through the muffler hole in 4230 hood??

B&D that link really helps IF your looking for parts for your GT 275 lawn mower. I am not sure how this helps on a JD 4230 turbo question.

I'm surprised that I have explain how to you and seller ? Find what is common to a 4230 and 4430, change what isn't.

Yes the 4320 elbow works out to let the muffler up through the hood with out altering it, I off set the elbow to make it fit better, there is a elbow off a power unit some one listed a while back that supposed to work even better but I have not tried it yet,, I have the part no. wrote down here some where here is a similar set up that I use on 4020's..

Maybe your time would be of better utilization if you concentrated on "Lisa's honey do list"! Do you really think Tim's elbow can be found in a JD parts catalog?

Tim S I'm really glad that u commented me back because I just started on this site and u r the main reason that I want to turbo my 4230 because of your pics on the web showing how It looks all together , because I've got a ment condition 4230 with 4300 ordinal hours and I here a lot of talk about doing this to a 4020 or 4230, but u took some very detailed pics that answered a tone of my and I'm sure some other people's questions on doing this I've also got a ment condition 4020 consol that I also might like to do u this to also. Do u sell that elbo to turbo pipe or could u make me one?

Tim I did what you said, got 4430 exaust manifold, oil fead and drain lines for my 4230 turbo project, would u happen to have another one of those pipes u build to go between the 4320 exaust elbo and the turbo?

(quoted from post at 23:47:56 05/11/15) So is it worth the trouble to do the turbo?? Can u feel a tone of difference in power compared to what it felt before??

More power = more heat . Which planetary carrier ? Some are more robust than others .
