rbnsc Dewberry

Ron;
Yesterday you said you have never heard of dewberries.
Thinking that you may have seen they just never realized it
here are a few pictures showing the difference.

First blackberry.
Notice how small the berries are.
Notice they are still red as they ripen later than dewberries.
Notice the stems do not have red hairs.

And now dewberries
Notice the red hairs on the stems
Notice the berries are bigger and already turning black.

We use to have a lot of dewberries around here but in the last 15 years I haven't seen any around here. We had them growing along some of the side roads but then they started spraying to control weeds and brush after that they disappeared .

Hard to beat red fish on the grill or any other way. The fourth one down looks just like nnalert.

Hard to believe now, but when I was a kid, we picked them to sell for big money. $1 a gallon, and the biggest ones were always down underneath where the snakes were. We spent all our time down on the creek bottoms picking dewberries to sell for money. I don't know how we survived, but that dollar was a lot of money back then. Now I wouldn't pick a gallon for anything except a cobbler. They make some of the best jelly that there ever was, and the wine ain't bad either.
