OT John Deere Chainsaw

I have worked on many JD chainsaws and all were top quality saws, made by Echo and Efco.
Not the case today. I always considered JD products to be quality until I traded for a John Deere 300CS.
It is nothing more then a Plastic Homelite 300!
Basically a throwaway tool.
Owner said he bought it new from a JD dealer in 1999 and paid $405.00 ??
Oh--it has an adjustable automatic chain oiler that is inaccessible without removing the engine from the housing!

I had a JD #35 chain saw in the late 70/early 80.Had a metal case. It was a great saw. .......Till a tree fell on it :( I think
it was made by Remmington?

I have dealt with chainsaws for many years but, for the last several years, haven't repaired lower quality saws and other two stroke tools.
I have had many JD chainsaws and considered them to be of quality.
There is plastic on nearly every higher quality chainsaws, but the plastic is high quality--bends but don't break.
I now put JD with the lower quality tools.
JD bought out Homelite years ago and apparently just continued their products in a different color! I read somewhere that new JD chainsaws, blowers, trimmers are made in Communist China!

I've owned a JD CS62 and a heavy duty line trimmer for a number of years now. The saw is on its second bar and is still going strong. I believe both
were made in Italy. The line trimmer is close to indestructible. Deere no longer sources for their own line of saws, trimmers, etc.. ... my local dealer
now carries Stihl products. I've seen subtle changes in Deere over the past decade... none of it good.

Saws with the prefix cw like cw62, cw70 cw50 etc were built by Efco out of Italy. These were top of the line saws. Cannot speak for the newer ones. If like other deere shortlines proably junk kinda like there dealer network now.

When it comes to chainsaws, I favor the Homelites. Rugged and hard working saws. Remingtons are also excellent saws, and I might actually prefer them over the Homelite, but they are HEAVY. I have a commercial size Remington saw, and it takes 2 men and a small boy just to pick it up. I gave up on it when it started getting too hard to start.

If I remember correctly, Deere owned Homelite for a short period of time. Most likely that's when the poor quality Deere saws come to market. Homelite use to be a good saw years ago. When quality dropped, we dropped Homelite.

Kind part of your post, looks like KUBOTA and Echo are in a marriage. Right now Kubota dealers are being encouraged to take on Echo and probably will see Kubota badged Echo products by first of the year. Most Deer dealers in this area have Sthil products.
