Oliver 77 gear tooth

I was working on the 77 trying to beat the #6 piston out and this tooth fell from somewhere at the rear of the engine it's almost an inch long any ideas what it's from?

Likely from a starter drive that had been replaced some time ago and was in the clutch housing and the vibration shook it out. A timing gear tooth would still be inside the engine.
 
Are you sure that is a gear tooth? From the picture it almost looks like a piece of key stock.
