Well good old pa weather sunny one week and 75 and 30 thus morning and inch of snow hope my oats will be ok suppose to be sunny and in the 50 this weekend

I've seen 6" of snow over oats many times they always turned out ok. Fertlizer sales man once told me there is a little nitrogen in snow and usually the oats are greener after the snow melts.

Are they up yet? Even if they are, oats are pretty cold hardy and usually do just fine.
I am about to drill mine, but looking for a warm day to pick rocks before I do that.
Will summer ever come? How about spring?

1961, Senior in High School...we seeded oats just before Good Friday....Easter Monday we had several inch snowfall. Turned out fine. Oats likes a cold, wet Spring.

They'll come right up. I have spread uncomposted manure from my small pets, into my garden in the fall. It was was peppered with feed oats, and I got a lush patch/cover crop to till in that spring. I did not think they'd make it over winter, but sure enough with feet of snow on top all winter, all of it germinated and was tough to kill off actually LOL ! One year I did this and literally let it grow until it headed out and still planted that garden. I was able to pick grain off it. Location was next to my house, on a hill facing south, so things start growing earlier than anywhere else nearby. I was surprised at how well it did and let it go that year just to see what would happen.

Some of the best oats we ever grew got buried in snow the day after planting. They were covered for a couple weeks afterward. We expected to replant them but they came up and did good. They were planted in March which doesn't happen too often where I live.

Like the others said I have has many snows and well below freezing temps on my small grains, in 45 years I have never lost one do to snow

Great! You will have a nice crop.

Now, my corn planted a few days ago, and it was 24 degrees last night, and our forecast is not real warm for the next 4-5 days yet.....

We will see how that turns out......
