Buying advice

I found a 1994 yz 250 dirt bike the bottom end was rebuilt it just needs a piston and rings and a chain and sprokect I might be able to get it for 500 any opinion?

Yz is a good machine, iirc, that should be a liquid cooled machine. Swmbo used tonride a yz 80 , 93 i think. Crazy fast, i stll have my rm 250, havent ridden in a few years. If you need parts, bike bandit dot com is a good source.

I had a DR 650 and now have a DRZ 400. It is excellent for checking muddy fields but my legs are too short and low gear is a little high. Lots of torque over the 650 but the 650 was faster with better milage.

If you can fix it at a reasonable cost, sounds good. $500 doesn't buy much new.

Sounds a bit high to me. I have a 1981 Yamaha XS650 that ran when I got it and payed $650 for it. Cleaned the carbs up put a new front tire on it and it is now on the road.

I think it is a little over priced, for a 16 year old machine. Not running, who knows what problems may come up. I think maybe 350-400 may be better. A few years ago I bought a 76 IT 400. Not running, like I buy all my stuff including my tractors. Don't know why I even bought it, I already have 4 Yamaha's I don't ride. Found out those early years they had a very bad ign system. I ended up buying a complete mag from another year. Check what running ones sell for. Do what you want. Just my opinion. Stan

If $500 will get it id say go for it they had a good spread of power from the bottom end to the top end. Bikes that hit hard when they get on the pipe are impressive, but are hard to ride in technical, or greasy woods. Give me smooth power delivery any day of the week! Besides im pretty sure the 94's or 95's have the purple powder coat frames, and that just screams 90's cool!

Thanks everyone it probably is I seen one the same year that ran had 16 hours on rebuild for 1800 I figured I put a couple hundred in parts in this one I wouldn't be in to bad of shape

If it was very clean and almost looked as if not raced but trail ridden. Ripped seat expansion chamber all bashed in , rims messy . then less.

Back when I rode dirt bikes they were air cooled. I upgraded from a 250 YZ to a 490 YZ back about 1980. The 465 YZ was bad, bad, bad but I think the 490 YZ was even badder. Both were lethal. Almost suicidal. Ahh, to be young again...sometimes.

Good luck, have fun.
