Well shocking

I am shocking my well today, dumped 2 gallons of bleach and handful of tablets in, all outlets have chlorine to them, so letting it soak now. The bad part is after you sniff a couple, you can't smell anymore. I think I will get test strips next time and use them. I think it is about 8 years since I did it. We get some bacteria that produces sulfur, I do not have it bad, but time to do it.

The state used to check our water every year or two when we were shipping milk. We had to chlorinate the well a couple of times. Not a pleasant thing to live with for a day or two.

Every time our well people pulls the pump they dump a gallon of bleach down the well before they leave. My well here at the house could use it done now. The water has started to have a slight sulfur odor. We have never had an odor from the well at the factory/farm where we raised our kids. Both wells are over 200 feet deep but 15 miles apart.

Never shocked the well but I have a filter system installed right before the pressure tank. One medium chemical tank which is bleach and water (chlorine) which fills a large holding tank and a backwash tank. Wish I had paid more attention when they put it in so my feeble brain would understand how it works.
I was in shock over the $3500 price tag at the time.
I have iron algae in my water, nothing bad but every so often it makes everything look and smell like pond water.

I can't quite remember but I think the last time my well was pulled it was shocked but then after a week or more they then checked for bacteria

Sounds like you added a plenty. Can you rerun that water back into your well to blend that clorine. We have 6 houses on our 80' well and I dump in about 6 small tablets every 3-6 months. That much clorine would throw off your test if you were to have it tested. Hope you have plastic pipe.

we put chlorine bleach in our well some years back. The pressure tank bladder was some type of latex rubber and the bleach caused it to delaminate and clog up all the sink screens for weeks. Never did it since.

i was having to do that to mine every year or so till i got a 300 gallon tank and mixed my chlorine in the tank and dumped it all down the hole, haven't had to do it since, been 6 years
