O/T Gooseneck stock trailer on a f150?

I think it may be time to get a stock trailer. always paid my neighbor to haul animals as i did not have very many animal but now things have changed and i think it will be more cost effective to have my own. all
i can find in my price range are gooseneck trailers which I'm not opposed to. My truck is a new 2014 F150 it is the eccoboost 3.7 rated at 7200 lbs. the trailers i see have 2 3500k dexter axels and are 16ft so i
think the weight limits match but I rarely see 1/2 ton trucks pulling a gooseneck trailer. We will be raising a couple of bottle calfs and we currently raise hogs and diary goats. what is your opinions? I'm not
buying a trailer for a while I still have some saving to go so I'm just doing some research now. thanks all.

Around my neck of the woods you see quite a few of the newer Ford and Dodge 1/2 tons pulling goose neck trailers. People that I talked seem to like there set-up they usually say better then my old diesel truck. Look at the new 2016 Nissan Titan with the Cummins comes with a built in ball for your goose neck trailer.

That should make a nice combo. If you can find one with 5200, 6000 or 7000lb axles you will get better axles, brakes, and tires tho.

It will handle a 16-20ft just fine. If you are anywhere near southern mn, I bought my brand new 16ft bumper pull trailer from a place called Fergusons trailer sales. Price was almost $1,000 cheaper than my local dealers. I had to drive about 4 hours one way, but was well worth the savings.

I assume you are still talking double axle trailers. But if he gets one with heavier axles the trailer will likewise be built to handle more weight which means it will be heavier to start with therefore he will not be able to load as much weight on it.

That doesn't necessarily follow on cattle trailers as they are made simmilar over a wider range of sizes and capacities. Other trailers it's a bigger difference. If he stays with a simmilar length the empty weight will be close.

JMHO, I feel you be better off with the gooseneck than a bumper hitch. The hitch ball is a little in front of the rear axle so you're going to be balanced a little better. As far as a 1/2 ton pickup I hauled 10,000 lbs. of cattle in a 6x20 gooseneck with my Dodge 1500. Worked fine. I used 1/2 tons up until a couple of years ago, finally broke down and bought a 3/4 ton. Now I don't have any livestock just haul old tractors. ;-)

The suspension on the F150 will handle the little gooseneck fine - I'm not a big fan of the NA 3.7 pulling heavy loads though. I know its rated much higher HP than the old 302 push rod engines and most of the 4.6 V8 tritons but we've had a few and got nothing but complaints when they were used for any type of towing. After trying a few of them we went to all 5.0 V8s in the newer Fords. That is after years of using the Chevy 4.3 in our fleet trucks.

I have been pulling a 16ft featherlite 5th wheel stock trailer with 1/2 fords for 20 years. No problems at all. Kory
