In Oct. I was involved in an auto accident while driving my county wide door to door transit bus. It wasn't classified as my fault. But do to the fact that the service I worked for was a county entity and is governed by a 3 man county appointed board with their control of funding the service hates bad press. The local paper misled many by printing half truths. So 25 yrs of experience was wasted in a field of enjoyed employment. I had only had 2 other jobs before and while I first started in that job. Both of those jobs were for young people. Not people approaching 50 soon. So here I sit with little experience to anything but physical labor which Im to old for now and driving.
After enjoying the winter months taking care of many of my to do list items I decided maybe I should go back to work. CMU at this time of year wants summer help cleaning dorms, windows and floors. Applied early last week and was called yesterday to come in to fill out papers and get an id made up. I will start Monday midnights cleaning floors with scrubbers. Looking forward to the new challenge. When I was at personel filling out my papers I saw the job posting board and it had a full time posting for the job I am hired to do. I asked if I could sign up for that job. The gals said by all means. So I did.
Now to make this tractor related I took some of my off time to look for 38s for the rear of my farmall H as mine are starting to split on the sidewalls. Still looking by the way!! Found one 13.9 x 38 Armstrong but cant find a match. Other tractor related issue I didn't have to sell my 50 john deere B to pay for heat. Liked that a lot. Looking like it is going to be a full summer.

I'm glad you could find full time work Mike. I wish you luck with your new job. I just switched myself 3 weeks ago and wouldn't trade if for the world now. Sometimes things happen for a reason.

Hey Mike, I'm glad you could find some work, I know it's tough out there. I know a couple guys looking for work at that age, and it doesn't sound easy. They would usually rather hire a young person than a middle aged person. I'm assuming you mean CMU as in Mt. Pleasant, MI? If so, are you located fairly close to Mt. Pleasant? I'm in southern Gratiot Cty.

Happy to hear you found something. I was forced to look for a job when I was 50. after spending 32 years with one company. Was fortunate enough to find work, but the pay was not that good.
Since this happens with more frequency than ever, there is one thing to keep in mind. Many community colleges offer courses in industrial maintenance, and other fields in which there is quite a demand for good help. Most offer day and night classes. So if there is any subject that someone has been thinking about, for whatever reason, there is no time like the present to take advantage of the opportunity. Who knows, you may find yourself ahead of the game. (Not trying to tell anyone what to do here, but I have taken several continuing education courses myself at our local community college. The last course I took was in a field which I had experience, I just wanted to "brush up" a little. Didn't learn that much, but enjoyed the camaraderie with a bunch of old geezers like myself.)

It is good to hear you have a job in these hard times. I have a lot of time behind a floor machine. Story: I was using my machine in a room one night. This guy comes in and wants to try the machine, and slams it into a wall busting a hole in the sheet rock. Have fun in your new job. Stan

Congratulations, Mike! Looks like a little more exercise is in your future! And you get paid for it!

You are probably better off at CMU but if it doesn't work out, Morbark (in Winn) has a few jobs posted and maybe even Bandit.

I am talking of central Michigan university in mt pleasant mi. I live 7 miles north of the big city in a little farming hamlet called Rosebush. Randy I didn't make it to Trufant this spring do to the wifes to do list. Im trying to get as much as I can done so if I do have a few free minutes during a day while she works I can do what I want. Sounds like you did good. I enjoy that little out of the way auction. We have the big Yoder consignment sale in clare this weekend comin up. But it is the warden and I 11 anniversary so may not get a full day of auction in then either. She knows Im looking for tires so she will let me go at least to check things out.
