Hello everyone,new to this forum and have a question.I have taken a job in my shop for paint that is a 1950 Farmall super A.Someone painted it years ago,and under all the red paint this tractor has blue paint from the factory. All parts on this tractor right down to the crank pulley have the letter "L" stamped in them.Owner is a lifetime Farmall collector and has never seen this.Does anyone know anything about this blue tractor with all the parts stamped?
 
red paint was falling off,appears to be factory blue as there is no evidence of any other color under the blue,no sign of sandblasting or any type of work under the blue paint.
 
Could it be what primer they had on hand that day? I bought a Farmall air pre-cleaner, about the same year, the red is fading badly, and under it is what appears to be original grey-looking primer.
 
Not real sure but where the red fell off the blue has a shine to it like paint.Owner says he hasn't seen this letter "L" in all the parts either.Every part on it has it.
 
In Fay & Kraushaar's book "Farmall Letter Series Tractors", on page 14 they state that, "IH would paint the tractor pretty much any color if the customer ordered enough equipment." I can't comment on the letter stamp.
 
Does it have a tubular steel or cast-iron front axel? The cast-iron axel was standard on the industrial model. The mention of a possible connection with blue paint, use at a naval dock yard and the letter-stamps on everything (the military seems to put some sort of ID mark on everything)may go with IH painting a bunch of them blue for the Navy and dock-yard use.
 
farmall painted the imlements a dark ford blue. I think also the cultivator/plow lift arms and linkages blue. maybe it's got something to do with that.
 
It does have a cast front axle.Do not have any pictures of this tractor we've already painted it red.It was a medium blue.
