Face Trimmer O/T

I guess it's O/T but hey, I'm a tractor guy. I am 60 years old and never have gotten in the habit of shaving. I do not know how men do it. They always seem to be smooth faced. My face grows whiskers. In summer I try to remember to mow it off about once a week. I've been using a Wahl rechargeable clipper but it leaves a pretty good stubble. Are the electric clipper you would recommend for this kind of abuse? I do not know if what they call electric shavers would cut the heavy 2 or 3 week stubble? Any recommendations?

I've got one of the Wahl clippers for cutting hair. When my beard gets too shaggy for a razor it mows it off well and can also cut hair with it. I think it was $30 or so from Wally World.

ith much over a few days growth, 'what they call electric shavers' will just try to pull it out! Make you want to shave more often to avoid the pain!

I always wet shave with a good lather and a double edge safety razor. Usually twice a week unless I have to go some place.

I found out many years ago that daily shaving left my face as raw as freshly ground hamburger. Continual rashes and ingrown hairs finally discouraged me from the daily shave. Shaving every 3 or 4 days left me looking "scruffy" most of the time - as if I was simply poorly groomed. Finally, in 1978, I let it grow and shaped it into a much neater looking beard. I have had it that way ever since.

Had a beard only during the winter for maybe 20 years, and then year round the last 20+ years. I do trim and shave my neck maybe once a week. I have no problems using a cordless Norelco 3-head rotary, but need new blades/shaving head every few years. Gave up on shaving cream and blades 20 years ago.

Just get in the habit of doing what I do. I just use a disposable razor and shave in the shower every night.

dollar shave club was my savior. before that i hated shaving and avoided it if possible, now i have no problem!

I guess it's what you get used to. I've tried growing a beard twice. With our heat and humidity I smelled like a rancid pickle jar by 10 AM. I keep my head cut short too. Shaving every other day works for me.

Well I guess it depends on what look you're going for:smooth or grubby!Anyway I too hate shaving(or anything in the bathroom),but I shave everyday basically because I don't want a beard any more, and,I hate shaving a thicker beard.I just do it as part of my morning routine as soon as I get out of bed, then have breakfast.I found long ago doing certain things as a routine, same way each time, helps me to just do them, and get it over with.I just retired, but still basically still do it the same way each day.I use a Braun shaver-it does the best and quickest job for me.Before this it was a Norelco, but the Bruan is better.Mark

This is what I wont--

I use the Remington "foil" type. About once or twice a week I use the trimmer and cut the stubble short. If I need to go to a funeral or something, I finish with the foil. Works good for me.
PS Retirement meant that I didn't have to be clean shaven every day!!!

I discovered that my 'AFTA' original by mennin, an after shave lotion, works very good as a pre-shave lotion. A lite coat and my 'dull' three head electric shaver then does a decent job. ? ? ?

Don't know, but if you've got a heavy beard most electric shavers just stall out. Then you get to walk around with a razor hanging on your chin. Ask me how I know.

rechargeable beardshaver works for me. I shave 4 or 5 times a year. Follow up with an electric shaver, no problem

I do the same thing. I probably do it the old way once a year. It feels like hair being pulled out by a tractor. When you shave at the end of the shower it goes so easy and the sink is never a mess. Suction cup mirror and you are set.

Sheep Shears ??? LOL

I normally shave every other day with a double-edged safety razor, NO soap or shaving cream, just warm water. Now if it's a "Special Occasion" - Wedding, Funeral, etc. , I usually get out my antique STRAIGHT RAZOR made in Sheffield, England and shaving mug and get a REALLY CLOSE SHAVE.

Doc :>)

WEll, thanks for all the comments. The consensus seems to be that if I want to conform to looking smoothed face I have to reform my ways.

I have Wahl clippers too. The one I got also had a small battery powered trim clipper with it. 3 haircuts they paid for themselves. The corded clipper has a lever on the side that moves the top blade fore and aft on the bottom. It cuts pretty good with the lever set for short.
