Special day: 45th anniversary Centennial Farm

Linda and I are celebrating our 45th anniversary today. Will be doing nothing special other than going out to a local diner for dinner and spending the day together.

Went out to the mailbox this morning and there was a large envelope for us. Michigan Historical Society has approved our application for CENTENNIAL FARM! Package included a nice certificate proclaiming that. Farm was purchased by my grandparents, Frank and Hattie Adell on November 11, 1914. From there my dad owned it, and we have held it for the last 32 years. Bet my grand parents would have never thunk! If they were to come back today they would not recognize the place. Would be hard put to find their finger prints on the place. Only part of one building (heavily remodled) remains from their life here. Hope they would be proud of what their farm has become.

A little later we will be issued a centennial farm sign, courtesy of our local power company. We're thinking a family BBQ in celebration the day we put it up.

Congratulations! I live on one of two family farms that got put on Va.'s Centennial list. This farm was supposedly part of a land grant from the King of England dating back to about 1790. I'd like to go back in time and see an aerial view of it back in that day!

Congratulations Ray, to you and Linda! Lot of history on that place. Didn't your Dad or Grandad build a nice curved rough barn there? Thinking you sent over some pictures once a while back. Keep it in the family for as long as you can.

My dad built the barn and house. I rebuilt the corncrib into a garage, son and I built the small polebarn. Had a contractor build the new large polebarn last fall. Missing buildings from grand dad's era - a small hog house, a chicken house with overhead granary, and a old one story barn.

Congrats on both. My brother and I still own Dad's farm in Ohio--Grandpa bought it in 1912. We've never applied for a centennial farm--maybe ought to do it soon.

Congrats to you and the Mrs. Maintaining a family farm for a century takes a lot of hard work by multiple generations and a lot of family pride. We have several around here including my uncles farm.

Congrats. If I'd have known, you could have joined us at Pizza Hut. LOL
When I got home from Trufant the wife said she was too tired to cook so we were going out.

Congratulations on both accomplishments. My wife and I will celebrate 32 years the 1st of June. My Great grandfather bought our farm in 1906. I've thought about applying for the centennial farm award but haven't yet.

Ray, congrats to you and wife on your anniversary. and the farm, that is something to be proud of. Me and my brother have one place that our Daddy farmed, but it is not A centennial farm. Good luck to you two and the farm.

Congrats Ray, Both fantastic milestones.

My farms been in the family since my great great grandfather bought it in 1883. It was paid off with a steam engine and threshing machine. they went deeper in debt and bought both. Threshed grain all around the neighborhood.

Congradulations on your anniversery. Unfortuntly I will never make those years as My wife of 37 years passed away middle of March. As for the centenial farm thing Ohio has that as well but I will not do it even tho what I have has been in the Helmlinger family name since 1839. Don't want what I see as a hastel. No good can come from that.
