Got a phone call the other day from some foreign voice on the line congratulating for being the recipient of $2 million dollars. All I needed to do was give them some information. I told the guy to show up at the local sheriff's office with the check and I would give him all the info he needed then. He hung up. Traced the number and it was a from Jamaica. Guess he isn't coming cause he never ask what sheriff's office. I could have used that money to buy more tractors.

If you would have told him about the tractors, he would have shifted gears and sold you a non-existent tractor!

Sadly, my parents fell for that in their later years. They just became infirm in their minds. They were wiring money to Jamaica... but didn't tell any of us kids, because they wanted to "surprise all of us" when they received the check for 2 million PLUS a HUGE Walmart gift-basket to be delivered by a courier who would be accompanied by two US Marshalls.

I stopped by on my lunch hour one day and both mom and dad were sitting at the table just wiped out... because they had just made a quick run to Western Union. I asked them why. They both looked sheepish. I asked if a family member was asking them to wire money... that brought out the truth that they were wiring money to some dude in Jamaica.

We ended up having to change their phone number to an unlisted one and stop home-delivery of their mail so that one of kids could pick it up and sort out junkmail. (Turns out mom had also been mailing small checks to every scam that arrived in the mail too.)

One hates to have to treat one's parents like children... but sometimes it turns out to be necessary for their own good.

My favorite are the ones who tell me my Microsoft Windows is infected. I always answer "Wow! That's amazing! I don't even own a computer! What should I do?" Usually a lot of silence follows.

I got a call about the infected Windows computer scam, argued with the lady on the phone, called her a lying scumbag thief, she replied with the you have infection in you windows computer that MUST be fixed turn it on so I can help you. I said that was awful nice but why is Windows technical support calling me as I have an Apple computer. She hung up after that, hasn't called back since.

Got a call from a guy with a strong eastern European accent, claiming to be with IRS and that there was "a problem with my account". Fine, say I, what's the problem? He needs "to confirm" my SS# in order to proceed. OK, what number have you got, and I'll confirm it if its right. Click.

Hi you sound like my buddy that farms, quite often i'll be at his place fixing or over for coffee, He will say if I won 2 or 3 million+, I'll buy this new barn, tractors or other equipment. I say if I won that kinda money. He'd better ask any machinery questions quick I'm gone someplace else. If you got that kinda money free why would you buy this equipment and keep farming it. Like you him and me it's in the blood to far probably.
I think if it came to it none of us would change much that farm or fix, we might have some slightly better equipment or pay for some fixing work. The money would bore us to death if we had it. and gave up working full time and sat around or were doing hobby stuff full time.
Regards Robert

I know a place where they make millionaires out of farmers. Of course, they have to start with 3 or 4 million dollars and in a few years they end up with just 1 million!

I got a call from the county lawyer. Told me I had ten days to pay my taxes. Or be arrested. I ask him which county as I owned land in three counties.Phone went dead just after he said a few choice words.

we had the same thing with my m-i-l.
my b-i-l finally had her phone taken out as lots of phoney baloney tv preachers were scamming her.
she was living in retirement home so she didn't need phone
mrs 730 did miss calling her thou but understood why taking phone out was needed.
the worst one thou was her own minster would come to visit her with his had out
he took her for $12000 plus in one year that we knew about.
she always had cash in her pocket which she would give away until b-i-l found out what was going on.
he would give her a few dollars so she had some money.

If I found that a minister, or anyone calling himself a minister, was taking that kind of money from an older person, especially a relative, I would have a "word of prayer" with him. (And he would need the prayers more than I.
