Newbie needs help identifying his new tractor

Rear fenders are stamped with Ford. They are currently colored red. The belly is gray in color. Hood is also red. Dash is currently gray, with red paint showing underneath the flaked off gray paint. I do not think that the colors are right for this model. It is a 1944+ based upon the radius rods... they are not the i-beam style, but oval tube style. This is my first tractor. I have an affinity for classic car restoration. I think this tractor has Ferguson blood in it. There is a plate on the left side of the block that is totally unreadable. The plate sits directly above the starter solenoid, starter and distributor. All emblems and markings on the hood are gone. Headlights have been removed. There is no key ignition. 6 volt battery sits directly in front of the dashboard under the hood. Dash has Oil and Amp gauges, and a toggle switch and what looks like an indicator light. I can confirm that it has the Z120 engine, as it is clearly stamped on the left side, down low near the distributor and dip stick. I can send pictures to anyone who can help. Call my cell 336-209-9941, because I am having trouble finding out exactly what I have. Michael.

Probably a 8N. The 9N and 2N have 6 lug nuts on a large bolt circle. 8N has 8 Bolts on the wheels with much smaller bolt circle. Jim

Pretty fair chance you have a Ferguson TO20.
$speed transmission, With a S to right and up on the shifter for start.
Yours has been changed. Oval brake pad for left and right brake.
Should have Delco electrics. Is possible it is TE20 (tractor England)
The grill would be in 2 or3 pieces but look like TO 20 grill.
Harry Ferguson board down the list can be of help.

It is easier to put Ford fenders on and Fergy than a Continental Z120 to a Ford
bell housing. My guess , I could be wrong.

LOL, as could we all!

HOPEFULLY he will solve it with Smith's site or post a photo.

Ferguson does not have a radiator cap showing a Ford does. Ferguson TO 20 and the TE 20 both use the Z120 engine. The Ferguson grill is horizontal and I think the Ford is vertical. The Z120 should be cast not stamped. (Only trying to be precise.) If the shifter has 1 3 S across the top of the plate and 2 4 R at the bottom I vote it is a Ferguson TE 20 or TO 20. If the shifter is showing 2 bolts and nuts holding the shifter on then it should be a TE 20 no nuts and bolts holding the shifter on then it should he a TO 20. Check this out and find out if he has Ferguson or Ford.
IDing some Ferguson tractors

The TE's could be had either a continental or a standard engine depending on year made, with the dark night Lucus electrics on it,not sure if it was used on the continental, both are ohv.

We found out he has a Ferguson TO 20. We could not find the year as the serial number tag was missing but the 4 rivets were still in the holes.

The TE20 only used the Continental Motors Engine made in Muskegon, Mi. except if it was a specially ordered unit. The Standard Motors engine made in Coventry was also the builder of the Ferguson tractors in Coventry, England and that was the motor that was used in the 16 other TE series tractors made in England (I believe it was 16 plus or minus a couple). Yes Lucas Electrical was used on the Continental TE20.

It definitely has a Z120 Continental engine in it. There are 4 rivets above the steering wheel where the ID plate used to be, but I confirmed that there is nothing under the layers of paint there. The enthusiast that called me that evening seemed to think that the Ford fenders had been added later... maybe because the originals may have been damaged. Transmission has the S on the far right and it has the oval pedals on it. I am going to try to find the serial number on the engine to see if I can narrow down a manufacture date. He told me it was definitely a TO20
