Did IHC or any aftermarket supplier offer and lower gear transmission to install between the differential and the transmission?

I havent been able to find who made them but there were a reducing something installed in the bell housings of B farmalls in Wisconsin for the gensing crop

Gene,

Thanks for the information. Maybe IHC or aftermarket suppliers didn't offer such a device. A ferguson TE 20 I have has sometype of reduction transmission. Low, direct, and high. The reduction gearbox is between the front of the transmission and the clutch with a lever sticking out through the side of the case.

sherman made them for the fregies and fords, and there was another company also but i cant remember the name.

You may be thinking of Hupp, they made over/under auxiliary transmissions & a few other add on items.

Glennster,
Yes, that's what it is, a Sherman. Great for lower travel speeds but it also slows down the PTO. When using my woods 4 foot mower cuts best in direct

Glennster,

Yes, that's what it is , a Sherman. Works great when one wants to tractor to move slowly and not jump. Problem is that the Sherman slows down the pto when in low. Running my 4 foot woods billy goat pto mower regular speed works best

dmp62,

I do not know where I got the idea that a secondary transmission was available for the cubs at one time

There where a number of companies that made aux transmissions. Sherman and Hubb of some such and then Howard. The Howard was call a rotovator and was made so if you had say an 8N you could use a tiller behind it. Never seen or heard of one for a cub but then I have not seen all of what might be out there

Old,
I was able to post on modern view regarding the secondary transmission for a farmall. Thanks again for the help using modern view.

Do not remember when the modern came about but there was vote years ago asking if we wanted to go modern or stay classic so they did both sine the old ones wanted to stay classic and the your ones wanted the other way

Old,
You have obviously been using the forum for a long time. I really like the forum. Gives me the opportunity to communicate with people such as You, that have superior knowledge and experience .

All posts appear in both views. The site administrators spent a lot of time coming up with a way to synchronize the postings between classic and modern view in order to please everyone.

Old,
You have sure learned how to navigate the forum since you joined

I am 72 years old, definitely a senior. Never ceases to amaze me how little I know about many things. I always have an open mind to learn.

I went and looked. I have been on Y-T since March 12th 2000. As for learned I was taught when I was young to keep my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open so by doing so I learned too many things. Shoot at one time I could still tell you what E equals MC squared meant but not any more since I have not used that term in well over 3 decades

Old,
When I post on modern view do replys go to my email? How do I return to what I post on modern view?
Thanks,
Chris I posted an inquiry about the total system our host sells for converting a 2N, front mount distributor, to an outside coil. A special cap is required and sold. I think PerTronix came up with it

Like all Farmalls of that era, the Cub was underpowered, if it had had about 3 more horsepower it would have been a world whipper and not needed any more gears. Short sighted IH engineers had it done quite well in design but were afraid to power it up enough to have a decent reserve when needed. Super models had it but they were about 10 years out of date.....They started falling behind in 1952 and never caught up.

Agree like a Ford flathead you could not help them much... The OHV engines you can... I have a 56 farmall 100 with a late 140 cam, head, overbore kit with firecrater pistons its strong...

The first tractor I brought was a cub I traded it as fast as I could...
