may be a silly ?? but got to ask.

my farmall H has a battery that has seen better days. The last month when I needed to push snow I would put on the charger booster and it would fire right off. Today I was thinkin of back blading some snow drifts out back to get things dried up and the old girl acted like it had no battery at all. no noise or anything. I checked connections at battery all the way to the starter button. all are clean. Got out another battery that I load tested to be better than the original. Put it in and still nothing. I put the trickle charger on it for the day and will look things over tomarrow. I am used to dirty connections and bad batteries but I can usually get a roll or 2. Im I missing something simple? that is usually my down fall. I am going to try another battery if I can get one from the junk yard nearby. thanks guys.

I had that happen and the problem was one of those cheap battery cables with a squish clamp terminal(that is not the technical term but the best I can think of right now). The clamp was held to the cable by two screws and a plate and the plate, clamp and wires were all corroded on the inside where I couldn't see till I took it apart.

Clean the contact areas of both ends of the ground cable. That's the thing that a lot if people overlook.

Swat the starter with something. The brushes probably aren't making proper contact with the armature.

I've had the starter lock up on me and act like that. H's and M's. Loosen the mounting bolts and wiggle it. Might hear a click. Tighten back up and try it.

Does your H have working lights? If so turn them on. Do they light up. Try starting. Do they dim?

Neighbor had a H the starter locked up all the time. He ran it with the starter loose so he could wiggle it with out tools.

I moved my battery ground cable on my Farmall C and put it under one of the starter mounting bolts. It made a world of difference in starting the tractor. Of course I had to buy a longer cable.

Invest in a $6 incandescent test light. So much easier to test than guess!

They're simple to use, the more you use it, the more confident you'll get. It's a simple matter of seeing where you have power and where you don't!

First let me say I'm not assuming anything This is for a 12 volt battery but for those that don't know and I have seen many folks who will measure the volts and get 12.0 and figure the battery is good,
Check your battery with a volt meter battery voltage should be
12.6V@100 percent
12.5v@75 percent
12.3 @50 percent
Mine will usually charge to 12.7

appreciate help. Let me clear up things. 12 volt. I did check battery. On my load test it is weak but workable. I have been putting the booster on it each first start of the day when I needed it and all has worked fine. Second battery is stronger but still not new. Have cleaned all connections from battery to starter, battery to push button. Lights do come on. Starter has always spun when ever button is pushed. This time NOTHING. I am thinking as some of you that maybe it is hung up. Will check that. I am hoping for the new battery to be delivered here tomarrow. Just want to clean up the mud that got pushed around as snow this winter. See if I can get it all back in the drive where it belongs.
