Spring tillage?

So the daughter comes home from Michigan State today and tells me they are tilling the fields over in that area. I still have frost in the ground and some snow on top. She asked me how they could be doing that and I was not able to answer. So how are they able to do that? Too wet here!

Got me hanging. I tried to haul some manure today. It didn't go well. I got rid of two loads by staying right down along the south side of the field where there's some ice,but I put the duals on and parked everything. It's supposed to get down in the 20s a few nights this week,so maybe I can get a few loads out early a few mornings, but that's gonna be about it. There are a whole bunch of frozen water hydrants around the neighborhood yet,so it'll be a while before the frost is gone I'm afraid.

Exactly! Nice day today so I had a client to see then stopped by the place and sat on the south side of the barn and ate my lunch. Snow is melting and frost is coming up but it is running water all over and I would bury any tractor I took out on that. Then the daughter comes home and tells me they are tilling around school?!?!? Must have tracks with pontoons bolted on the sides.

Sand you can till most times once the snow is off. An old fellow I used to know over towards Geneseo used say that if the farmers there could go in February they would to plant peas or oats. Loam of clay needs to thaw plus dry to avoid compaction.

One of our bus drivers came back in today and said the big dairy farm by me plowed a field. I said I found that hard to believe. When I drove by it I seen where he had spread liquid manure on top of the snow. It did kind of look like it had been worked up.
I'm 50 miles east of Lansing, where MSU is located.
There's no way anyone by me is doing any tilling.

Those worthless Sandhill Cranes are back. I heard them cackling for the first time this year when I was putting the duals on this afternoon. I wonder how long it'll be before they're living in the bunker silo again?

Hey,the starter shop was opened back up. I guess she was just closed for that one day. I dropped off the generator for the 500. If you need her to work on anything, just search M44 Starter and Alternator online.

I think you got it. It occurred to me because I have seen it closer to home this week. I told her...she thinks it may be so.

These two don't drink. I ordered a bottle of wine on her 21st birthday and she barely sipped it. I ended up finishing it...and the bottle.

Got some of those Sandhill Cranes around here (central east coast) too. Their kids are sure cute but boy do they grow fast.

Wish we could have got our hogs to grow that fast back in the day.

I also doubt it. I'm 25 miles west of Lansing and work in the Lansing area. I am friends with a guy that installs field tile. He's going back to work next week. Those new tile plows they have are impressive machines. Maybe someone was trying that out?
