Anyone play with them??? Anyone remember the old ones in the 1960's 70's???? Does any one use the new ones today?? What thoughts do you have? Seems like the 4 wheeler has rendered them useless. Oh some of them would float and went on lakes.

i have two that i bought at an auction several years ago. they have 400 cc snowmobile engines in em. lots of fun, they go across water like a boat, but not very fast.

I had couple of MAX II six wheelers. Sold them couple yrs ago. One was older with a JLO 2 stroke. Thing would scoot pretty fast. Newer one had a 16 hp twin briggs in it . I loved it except no suspension . Just relied on low pressure tires . Tore my back up too much . one of the guides ice fishing last weekend had an ARGO 8 wheeler with tracks,,pretty sweet unit but $36,000 .

The six and 8 wheel ATV's are a far cry form the units of the 60's, 70's and even the 80's. They were absolutely terrible.
Four stroke engines, heavier drive chains, much larger/stronger axles and variable steering instead of brake steering. Taller more aggressive tires, more ground clearance.
no suspension so top speed is limited.
Have yet however to see a four wheel ATV that can swim across a pond with a moose in the cargo hold.
Ontario Drive and Gear manufacture the Argo which is a practical functioning machine. had a tour of the factory once upon a time.

farmer I worked for about 15 years ago bought a new 6 wheel argo. That thing should have stayed at the dealership. mud or snow, leave it in the shed, it had no ground clearance. Ya it was cool rolling into a pond and touring around for a bit, but getting out was always a challenge if you didn't have a ramp to climb back out of. Wet, greasy pond banks and next to bald factory tires made it hard to climb out. I remember him constantly having the floor pan out doing something with the chains. I also remember it sitting in the shed for a few months with the transmission out of it.

Would of been about 69 or 70 where I used to work, a buddy of the serv. manager dropped off one of those amphibian contraptions for some reason. Day or so later serv. Manager says let's try it out, don't think we went up the street over 150 feet too fast when he pulled the wrong lever apparently and hit the back of a parked car. I wound up on the trunk with scratched bloody hands and shins and the 6 wheeler had multiple cracks.

Ever hear of a Sur-Trek? I hadn't either until I saw this... Looks like fun!

We had a company blow in here and get a bunch of government money to start a plant, building one called coot . They filed for bankruptcy within the first year. I don,t know how many they ever made or sold.

I had an uncle who sold Jigers' on his farm in Fowlerville MI back in the 60's. They were a blast to drive but prone to breaking down. The ones' he had had the T handle steering in the center.
